2. Doug Purcell
    3. Seeking information on Phalby (Falby) HORN who was born c 1786 and married Alexander TORRY (TORRIE, TORY, TORREY) probably in Cumberland or Robeson Co., NC. Alexander TORRY was born in 1776 and died in Claiborne, Monroe County, Alabama in 1835. He and his family also lived in Hancock and Clarke Counties in Georgia. Phalby HORN was probably the second wife of Alexander TORRY. Children included: Rebecca, George William, James, Mary Elizabeth, Frances, David and John TORRY. These may be children from both marriages. Also what is the origin of the given name "Phalby" or "Falby"? Is it a nick name for a more formal forename? Thanks for any help offered with this query. 1. Richmond/Scotland Co.
    2. Nancy Brister
    3. Hi all, I'm new to the list and only two years into family research. One of my areas of interest is Richmond/Scotland County, NC. The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know! But I have accumulated a small collection of Richmond/Scotland resources and, if anyone else is doing research in that area, I'd be happy to look up names and see what I can find. My ggggrandparents, Duncan and Catherine McCORMICK came to Richmond County from Appin, Argylleshire, Scotland in 1791, along with Duncan's brother, John. They are buried in Stewartsville Cemetery, near Laurinburg. Their second daughter, my gggrandmother, Nancy, married Daniel CARMICHAEL and they migrated first to Alabama, then to the Scottish settlement of Union Church in Jefferson County, Mississipp and eventually settled in Neshoba Co., MS. Would like to find other descendants of Duncan and Catherine's -- I have information to share with them and, probably, quite a bit to learn! Also, have just begun my research on the CARMICHAELS of Richmond Co. If anyone happens to have the address of the Stewartsville Cemetery Association, I'd appreciate it so much if you would share it with me. And, again, I'll be glad to look up names in my little "library" for other Richmond/Scotland Co. researchers. -- Nancy Brister

    3. Since I haven't posted my research needs in a while here tis. I am interested in any families of the McGregor surname in NC. I am particularly interested in the family of John McGregor sp. Mary Flowers and who their son William McGregor was. John's will was Will written 3 Aug 1794 Anson Co., NC. His listed children were: Sarah McGregor Williams, Francis McGregor Sandifur, Cynthia McGregor Sandifur, Thomas McGregor, Jean McGregor Brown, William McGregor and Elizabeth McGregor. It seems that most of his children scattered and settled outside of NC. Thanks AmyAnn <>< ~ I John 4:10 - This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. ~ ><> AmyAnn's Hideaway A_JD.78687@worldnet.att.net http://home.att.net/~a_jd.78687/index.html

    3. Hello all, I have a question and am in hopes someone will have the answer. I've gone back to the confirmation I received when I joined the list, which reads, in part: "The purpose of this list is to facilitate communication between genealogists that are researching Scottish immigrants to NC. This includes all surnames & all localities in NC. Of course, messages & queries can also be posted regarding Scotland topics, as long as the subject lived in NC at some time." I've re-read the orginal post of this subject, and I can't find anything relating to the stated objectives of the list. Since I have only recently joined Rootsweb mailing lists, I'm wondering if it is a common practice to post messages unrelated to the stated purpose of the list. Are messages monitored in any way? If someone on the list posts an unrelated message, is any action taken? A similar situation occurred on a different list (different topic) and I wondered then. Now my curiosity has gotten the better of me. If anyone knows the answers, I would appreciate their reply very much. Nancy Brister

They share information between people who have Scot background, Irish, German, and African. They help each other. Bill

I, personally, lost 12 members of my family in the Civil War, and they were all Confederate soldiers. I would LOVE TO ADDRESS THE OTHER ISSUES YOU HAVE EXPOUNDED ON; HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR IT!! If one does not have an understanding of history then genealogy is nothing more than names and dates. But I suppose some people only do genealogy to prove they are related to some famous person, and not delving into the history of those that came before us and really trying to learn about the individual. Last I checked there were Scots on both sides of the issue. Just as there were Scots on both sides of the Revolution, and the War of 1812. Lets see were there Scots in the War with Mexico, and WWI, WWII. How about Scots that fought against the Indians? Right or wrong is a personal opinion and not factual history. Genealogy is history, IMHO. Glenda

    2. Hello, Here is another site from BJ which she sent me and is an excellent one. It does not necessarily pertain to research in the area of Scotland but in comprehensive as to the English personage. This site and lists are of the nature not found under normal searching. Click here: Marriage Witness Indexes Thanks John Lester

    1. Clarification
    2. To the listmembers Other than my initial response to jdorocia@soback.kornet21.net reaction to the SCV lawsuit against the state of TN, which was mailed to the list I have responded privately to each individual that has written. This is an attempt to keep this sensitive issue off the list and cluttering up your mailbox with something you may not want to read. What others choose to do, I have no control over. Please be assured that I will not send any responses to the list that are intended for individuals. Glenda
