Hi All: I would like to find out more about my MACTAGGART & DUNN ancestors in North Carolina. Can anyone identify with the following? Donald MacTaggart (statistics unknown) married Margaret (?). Their daughter, Margaret "Maggie" MacTaggart b. Glasgow Scotland, July 4, 1844, m. Thomas Dunn (date unknown) probably in or near Egypt (Cumnock), Chatham Co., NC. Thomas Dunn, b. about 1844 in PA. Family moved from PA to NC about 1852. Thomas' parents were Robert and Margaret (Wilson) Dunn of Nova Scotia. If any of this seems like a match to what you are researching, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you, Fred Kligge
Hello Listers: Is anyone out there researching the DUNN or MACTAGGART families of North Carolina? I would love to hear from you. My g-g grandfather, Thomas Dunn moved with his family from PA to NC probably in the 1850's. They lived in Egypt, NC which I understand is now named Cumnock and is in Chatham Co. Thomas' father is Robert Dunn who came from Nova Scotia to PA to NC and was involved in coal mining and engineering. Robert married Margaret Wilson who was from Nova Scotia. Thomas married Margaret MacTaggart who was born in Glasgow in the 1840's. Margaret MacTaggart's father was Donald MacTaggart. One of Thomas' brothers, Robert, married Elizabeth A.C. Wicker, daughter of David and Christian (McIntosh) Wicker of NC. Since I have been unable to find any reference to the MacTaggarts in PA, I believe they may have settled in NC. If any of this sounds like a match to anything you are researching, I would like very much to hear from you. Thank you, Fred Kligge

Thought I'd mention again: James Stewart and his wife Elizabeth Bates came to NC from Scottland some time after 1758 (they were supposedly married in Scottland, but have found no record) had at least two sons, Henry, and James Bates Stewart who was born in 1795 somewhere in NC. Notice all the somewheres? This is all family history with only concrete: James Bates Stewart, 1795, NC, mother Elizabeth Bates, father James Stewart of Scottland any one see these names before? Regards, Charlene

Hello All, I was told my Scottish, immigrant ancestor received a 200 acre land grant in 1787 in NC. Is there a place on the web I can search and prove this? Thanks, Betty
This message was sent to me by JBlue46498@aol.com although I was not the originator, just the "forwarder". Hopefully now it will find it's way home. - ----------------------------- John, I have a Dr. Colin Bethune (1830-1890) who married who married Katherine Francis Blue (1848-1924). They had 7 children. Katherine was descended from S1 - The Lakeview Scottish BLUE Family S1. Duncan BLUE (1734-1814), m.ca1763 Margaret CAMPBELL (1740-1820). He was born on the Isle of Jura, Argyllshire, Scotland, and she was born at North Knapdale, Kintyre Peninsula of Argyllshire. They were married in Scotland and about six years later, in 1768/9, they came to America, settling in what is now Moore Co. NC (then a part of Cumberland Co.). Duncan received a king's grant of land at Lakeview NC, below the mouth of Shaddock's Creek. In his will, written 29 Aug 1806, proved Feb Term 1815, Duncan left a total of 560 acres of Moore Co. land to sons Patrick and Duncan. Eldest son John received 350 Spanish Milled Dollars. Duncan and Margaret died in NC and are buried in the Lakeview Cemetery. It is believed that this BLUE family took no active part in the Revolutionary War, but "passively sided with the King, as nearly all the Scotch families did." S1.1* John Campbell BLUE (1765-1834), m1. _____ _____, m2.1795 Catherine McMILLAN (1765-1862). S1.2* Patrick (Peter) Campbell BLUE (1768-1822/6), m. Phebe SHIELDS (d.aft1826). S1.3* Sarah BLUE (b.ca1774), m. Archibald McMILLAN (b.ca1758). S1.4* Duncan Campbell BLUE (1780-1851), m.1825 Sarah FERGUSON (1806-1878). S1.5* Catherine "Kate" BLUE, m. Morris MORRISON. S1.6* Effie BLUE (1780+-ca1857), m. John BLACK Jr (d.bef1850). This Blue family intermarried with about 100 Bethunes. Dr. Colin was probably the grandson of your Coiln Bethune. Another try to get over my brick wall! I am looking for the parents and family of: MURDOCK MCLEOD b. 1785 NC county unkn. parents unkn. siblings unkn. married: Sarah b. 1810 GA Children: Mitilda, Sarah Ann George W. Andrew Jackson Baneta William All the children were born in GA. Murdock must have come to GA before 1830. He was in Baker Co. on the 1850 GA census. He died before the 1860 census. His wife was in Mitchell Co., GA on the 1860 census. Mitchell was a part of Baker Co. until 1856-57. Murdock McLeod may have been in the War of 1812 also but cannot confirm this. A Murdock McLeod is listed as a soldier from NC in the War of 1812. To this date, I have found Murdocks but not during the same time period. Could you McLeod descendents look through your trees and see if Murdock b. 1785 is listed among your kin? I need any clue to get over this wall! Nora

Just finished three interesting books and I thought some of you might like to know about them. FERRY TALES OF ARGYLL AND THE ISLES by Walter Weyndling -- the history, as well as anecdotes from locals, of the ferry boats that ply the waters of the western isles; also pictures. THE ISLE OF JURA - MEMORIES OF THE PAST by Gordon Wright -- old photos & some beautiful new ones, too; reminiscences of life on the island at the beginning of this century; THE ISLE OF ISLAY - LOOKING BACK compiled by Margot Perrons of The Museum of Islay Life -- my favorite! a pictorial; wonderful old photos of places and people...... from 1890 to the 1950's; some of you may see the faces of some of your ancestors looking back at you........pastoral villages, thatched cottages, pipers and everyday life as it once was; McKinnons, McKays, Curries, Campbells, McDougalls & many, many more locals and/or their houses. Ordered the last two from a bookstore in Argyll, so if you can't find them let me know and I'll send you the e-mail address. Happy reading. -- Nancy Brister > > > > > > > > > >
