I have been searching for the mother of William E. BASS (my husband's great grandfather) for some time now. To my surprise, I found in the 1880 Sampson County, NC census living with my husband's William E. BASS (born 31 Aug 1834, died 21 Jan 1899) and Annah Celestia [Peterson] BASS a Sarah CHESNUTT, 74, MOTHER!!!! Does anyone know anything about this Sarah CHESNUTT? Could she have been a BASS who lost her husband and remarried to a CHESNUTT - or a CHESNUTT who bore a BASS child out of wedlock? Can anyone out there help me figure this one out? Jo Ann Sizer
