    3. Responding to NCSAMPSO-D Digest V02 #20 posting from Sandra Bradshaw Kennedy - I was reading the Sampson Co. postings and noticed that one of the names you are researching is Hargrove. That is a name I also am researching and would like to find out more information. My wife is Jo Ann Herring and she is the great-granddaughter of Bettie Jane Hargrove who was married to Owen Fennell Herring. The information I have on Bettie Jane Hargrove is that she was born 20 Jan 1851, was married about 1867, and died 21 Feb 1919 in Clinton, NC. I believe her father was Owen Hargrove (b-1808) and mother was Nancy Brodahar. If this is true, she would have sisters Ann M. (b-1844) and Josephine (b-1853),and a brother Benjamin F. (b-1848). For a time, I thought that Bettie Jane Hargrove might be the Elizabeth Jane Hargrove (b-1838) who was the daughter of Barr Hargrove who was married to Louise Boykin. I no longer believe this to be the case although the two families certainly seem to be connected. Owen Fennell Herring's mother was Mary Jane Fennell. Louise Boykins mother was Elizabeth Fennell. Mary Jane Fennell and Elizabeth Fennell were sisters. Barr Hargrove (not Bettie Jane's father) and his wife Louise Boykin had 5 children; Benjamin Robinson Hargrove (b-abt 1841), Anna Eliza Hargrove (b-3 Nov 1845), Haywood Hargrove (b-abt 1847), Nicholas Fennell Hargrove (b-abt 1849), and Elizabeth Jane Hargrove (b-abt 1838). Does any of this make a connection with you? I would appreciate any info you may have that might help me figure out more about Bettie Jane's ancestors or explain how Owen Hargrove and Barr Hargrove might be related. I hope this info may be of some help to you. Barry Collier E-mail: bcollier@neo.rr.com
