Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net ____________________________________________________________ [MATHIS, Edmond; b. 1776 in Sampson Co, NC; d. 1860 in Clinch Co, GA; buried at Prospect Church (grave unmarked); 4 children: Bunyan, John, Tyre, & Nancy.] Edmond was the co-founder of the Wayfare Church (his name is mentioned on the historical marker along with his wife and his brother John) and his wife Unity Register/Mathis (b. 1778 in Sampson Co, NC; d/of John Register; d. 1853 in Ware Co, GA ~now Echols~) is buried there (unmarked grave). It is only one of many churches that he founded in the surrounding county area. Edmond and his two brothers, John & James, came to the area in about 1802 from Sampson Co, NC. Judge Folks Huxford wrote about the three of them in his "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia" books.
