Hello anyone, Were there marriage bonds issued in this county? What year were of marriage licenses in NC issued for the first time? Is there a marriage bond, marriage license or cohabitation book in the county for all races? If so could someone steer me in the right direction. Thanks very much. Alice

Alice, I have a marriage bond for Alexander Carol and Lucy Ryal issued in DUPLIN County in 1783 - one year before Sampson County was formed from half of Duplin County. I think marriage bonds would have then been issued in Sampson County beginning in 1784. Before that date they would have all been in Duplin County. I don't know the date when the marriage license replaced the marriage bond. I hope that helped a little.
