    2. James Oates, Sr. married Mary Ann Wyatt [she died 1821] Their nine children: 1. Frances [Fanny] Oates married John Brown 2. Susannah [Susan] Oates [1795-1865] Had series of court apptd. guardiansd, Estate File, N.C. Archives. Sampson Co. Court Minutes, Aug. term 1829. Ordered that James W., Oates be appointed the Guardian of Susannah Oates who has been pronounced by a jury of Inquest to be non composmentes or a lunatic, he first entering into bond in the sum of four thousand dollars with Thurnefold T. Lane, Allen King, and Malcomb C. Blount as securities. 3. Ann Oates, married Labon Williams 4. Senah Oates, married Michael King 5. Mirah Oates, married Alfred Brown 6. Michele Oates, married Jethro King [Died 1823] 7. Michael Oates, inherited Mansion House, had son, Calvin Oates. 8. James Oates, Jr., married Mary M. Oates. Apparently, James Oates, Esq. was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Wyatt) 9. Stephen Oates [Died 1835] married Elizabeth Ship [Shipp] It was verified that James Oates, Esq. was indeed the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Wyatt) Oates. Also, the above James Oates, Jr. and James W. (Wyatt) Oates are one in the same. This James may not be correct as having married Mary M. Oates, as shown. I suspect that she married James, who might have been a son of the above James W. Oates. The nine children above are not necessarily in the proper order by birth. (Verification by Elza Oates of Huntsville, TX. a descendent of the above Stephen Oates) Source of the above is fronm the book "Roots, Seeds, and Other Things" By John Martin Oates, Jr.

    3. James OATES d.b. 25 Dec 1757 Dobbs County N.C. married Mary Ann WYATT 1760-1821 in 1782 d.d. 25 Mar 1815. They had nine children Stephen, Senah, Frances, Michael, Michel, Ann, Miriah, Susannah, and James Wyatt 1797-1877. Susannah was born in 1795 and she died in 1862. She was declared a lunatic by the Sampson County Courts. Her father, mother, and then her brother Michael were her guardians. I do not know if she preceded Michael in death or vic versa.
