You might check the Walters website for that family. The Walters settled in Robeson, migrating from old Dobbs so probably came right thru Sampson ca 1795. My maternal greatgrandfather was Stephen OATES, who married Elizabeth Ann Shipp in 1807. He had the following siblings Senah who married Michael KING. Frances OATES who married John BROWN, Ann OATES who married Labon, Michael OATES, who married Mary I do not know her surname. Michel OATES, who married Jethro KING, she may have also married a BROWN, after Jethro's death in 1823. Miriab OATES, who married John BROWN'S brother Alfred, the youngest was the brother James Wyatt OATES d.b. 1797 d.d. 1877. His wife was named Mary COBB daughter of Keran COBB. Anyone doing research on these families I would like to fill in the gaps please. There was a sibling named Susannah OATES born in 1795. She was declared a lunatic by the Sampson County Court. Her will was probated in 1862. Her father James was her first guardian, then, her mother Mary, and when Mary died in 1821, her brother Michael became her legal guardian.
Sorry, he was my maternal fourthgreatgrandfather. My maternal great-grandfather's great-grandfather.
