Diane, From personal experience, wear bug stuff! The little stinging critters hurt! A roll of butcher paper and some crayons help with transcription of really old tombstones. So many are worn away and covered with black moss. I have about 20 pictures of the cemetery at Harmony Presbyterian Church to send you and will try to get the rest in September. I'll also try to get more of Black River Chapel Presbyterian cemetery. The Shaw family reunion is in September, descendants of Rev. Colin Shaw and Phebe Williams Bannerman. You are my favorite geneangel! Do not get snake bit! Billie, way out in Texas
Great. I will send you the attachments to your personal email -- [email protected] There is a house nearby the cemetery. Two cousins walked over to the house to see if they knew anything. The lady didn't know much, but she did give them a copy of an old division of land that she thought pertained to that property. I will attach that also. ("Plat of the Division of Land of Ira Sutton, Sampson Co, NC"). The shape of the property next to Goshen Swamp and the road in front on the property lends credence to it being the old Wiggins land. You will see the shape and the road from the photos I took. The division of land is for Ira Sutton (b.7 Feb 1876, d. 4 Mar 1944). The names mentioned in the division are Mittie Pate, Mrs. W. A. Wheeler, L. H. Sutton, M. E. Sutton, and N. B. Sutton. Ira Sutton, from my limited research, seems to have been the son of John Benjamin Sutton and Hepsie Ann Sutton. Uncle Lathan told me that my gg grandparents John "Jack" Wiggins and Kitty Williams Wiggins "lived on the headwaters of Goshen Swamp and are buried in the Wiggins graveyard on the land, near Sutton Town." I need to hunt through my notes to see who else is buried there. My gg grandmother was living there as late as 1885 when she mortgaged the land and then forfeited. You might want to call my Uncle Lathan Wiggins and see if he will take you on a tour. He knows more about Goshen Swamp and Sampson County, NC, than anyone I know, and he can lead you right to the graveyard. I will put his telephone number in the offline email I am sending. He is 90 years old and mentally sharp as a tack. Happy hunting! Can't wait to hear about your results. For all you NC researchers, I spent yesterday at the Savannah Public Lib. in the "Georgia Room", it's on Bull Street. Very large, tons of books, and Sarah they have 1thru 10 I believe that was the last number of the "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", plus the index. They have a complete set of Revolutionary War books, and North and South books..must total over 50. Very helpful ladies there, and you can bring in your notes, computer. So I spent from 9 am till 4:30 there. Going to Ebenezer, Effingham co., GA today and of course Egypt.. This is cemetery and photo day.. See some of you in the Clinton Lib. next week. Jackie and Merv, Shingle Springs, CA.

Diane: My name is Doug Critcher. I am looking for info on a Elias Cook born abt 1822 in Sampson County. The 1850 census shows him and 3 children: Rice born 1844, Guilford born 1846, and Lucinda born 1848 living next door to John and Mahala Cook. It's possible, I suppose he is the son of John and Rachel Jordan, John's 1st wife. Thanks for the help. email: [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike & Diane" <[email protected]> To: "Sampson County" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 5:12 PM Subject: [NCSAMPSO] Surnames > Hi all, > > I am going to archive all of the surnames on the site since they haven't > been added to in a few years. Donna, isn't that the way it happens ! You just never know about the person you meet down there "I have missed asking someone too " about a connection then it was too late. Gail ps. I don't guess I will ever find Ava Hester Raynor . Maybe she just was a long lost sister to someone.. Girls were soon lost in records after marriage.
Diane, BALL, BASS, BOON, SELLERS, WEST are my families ofinterest. Thanks. Fran > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

The lady that wrote the history was my neighbor and I never knew she was related to the Thornton and Strickland. She died about 5 years. Wish I had know it, I even knew her and had been in her house with the DAR meetings. Donna
