Sharon, The congratulations are in response to the fact that the Duplin County NCGenWeb site maintained by Diane Siniard has won the Paul Green Multimedia Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians. See her 10/20/08 letter directly below this note. Lura >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi all, First off, I want to apologize for my lack of postings and keeping the lists alive. I have been having some complication from my surgery and have just not been feeling up to par so in turn my sites have suffered. I am trying to post as much as I can, but as you can see it hasn't been very much. I will try and turn that around over the next few days and get my inbox empty of all the info I have to post. So, please forgive my sloppiness and slowness, I promise to try and work on it more. : ) Now, on to the good news! Are you ready for this?!? Are you sure you are ready for this?? OK here it comes... I am very proud to say that the Duplin County NCGenWeb site has won the The Paul Green Multimedia Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians, Inc.!!!! You can visit their site and see where we were awarded it here: http://www ncsocietyofhistorians.org/green.html The award is in my name but it is to be shared with each and every one of you; I could not have done it alone, and the site has won because of each and every single one of you that have donated your work to make the site what it is today! So, I applaud each of you for your hard work and dedication to the site. Job well done! So, yes I know I have been lax in getting your materials posted, but on that note I would love for everyone to work even harder in the upcoming months and lets see if we can win this award or one similar to it every year! 3. The Rev. Dr. Edwards Amasa Park of the Andover Theological Seminary edited the "Sabbath Hymn Book"  which reached a circulation of about 120,000 between 1859 and 1860. A copy of the Hymn Book can be found in Google books. Hymn Number 1209 on page 276 Titled "Weep not: she is not dead, but sleepeth." gives the inscription you seek. It is neither Quaker nor Mormon but pure New England Protestant from Massaschusetts.

    3. Thank you for posting that inscription. I see they had an entirely different line of thinking from what I thought it might mean. It still indicated the family had faith to believe since God took away their loved one, He would comfort them. What hardships they faced and what faith they had!!! 3. Donna, I believe all you can infer from this inscription is that the man was part of a God fearing family. By "God fearing" I mean they had faith as well as respect. They accepted the fact of human mortality and believed that God would comfort them and help them deal with the empty space in their lives. I don't believe that you can assume the man was part of one Christian group or another. I tried to figure out what "defeft" might be if one or both of those were long "s" rather than "f". I don't come out with a word we use now, but perhaps it was one they used in worship back then. I believe that substituting the word "created" or the word "redeemed" would fit the meaning of the epitaph, but that might NOT be what they intended. 3. Donna, I don't believe that the majority of early Quaker burials had tombstones. My father was a Quaker from PA and his ancestors do not have markers of any description. They believed it to be vanity. The records in the cemetery office and the Meeting House were all there were. Dee All lookup requests will be permanently archived on the Bladen County Genweb site. 3. Hi, Gail, I research the Williamsons who lived in Johnston Cty and I am wondering if your Mary Jane is related to them. My Wrights married into this W. family. I have a Mary Jane, daughter of Eli and Margaret Williamson. Mary Jane Williamson married Stephen Pate (another Wright connection). Would be fun to connect them to my Thornton line. Have been trying to place Emmett Lafayette Thornton. Also, working on the Eli Thorntons. Ken Thornton found the Eli Thorntons to be Quakers. We are having a beautiful Indian summer weekend. Hope yours is lovely, too. Freda >Jeane, I am connecting a Wright Williamson to a Thornton via Mary >Jane Williamson ...
