    3. Some of you may be interested in the news that a roof collapsed this afternoon on the construction of a new Fellowship Hall at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 3790 Faison Road, Clinton, NC. One construction worker was killed and two others were injured. This church was Northeast of Clinton and Northwest of Turkey. 3. Newton Grove's Hillcrest (From Newton Grove take Hwy 701 South. Go for 3 miles. Turn right at Rosin Hill Rd (SR 1845). Go for .5 miles. The cemetery is on the left: Thomas J. Tart b. 1924; d. 1994. These were in Vol 1 of the Sampson County cemetery books. May be a descendant of your Thomas. Even better find: Tart Cemetery: Location: From Timothy Crossroads take Easy Street (SR 1636) north for 2 miles. Turn right on Lois Lane. Out in the field to the right is the Maynard cemetery in a fence. Then onward to the white house straight ahead and follow the road on around to the right and through the fence gate by the barn. To the right is a field and the cemetery is out there in the middle. Louisinda Tart b. 1823; d. 1853 John Tart b. 1777, d. 1875; Son of Thomas Tart. This would almost have to be the Thomas Tart you're seeking. This cemetery is indexed in Vol. 3 of Sampson County's cemetery books and covers the territory in the northern part of the county "from Clinton, NC on Hwy 421 North towards Dunn, NC and from Clinton, NC on Hwy 24 West towards Autryville, NC." These two are a rare find. It's been my experience that you almost never find a gravesite until after 1850. I think my earliest one is around 1870. I grew up in Sampson County and Timothy Crossroads and Easy Street don't ring a bell with me. But, I looked on a map I have of the county and Timothy Road and Easy Street are in Westbrooks Township up almost to the Harnett County line. Timothy Rd intersects with Hwy 13, a good distance from Newton Grove. That makes sense because the largest cluster of Tarts I found was in and around Newton Grove. Good luck.
