    2. FEP
    3. Listmembers, J.M. NIXON was located in Duplin 1829 rather than 1850's-1860's. Regret the error. In 1829, J.M. witnessed a deed from Frederick RIVENBARK to David RIVENBARK. In the deed Frederick retained a life interest for himself and wife in the land he was selling to David. Any info on J.M. NIXON appreciated. Thanks. Fran powell@closecall.com

    1. HARMON
    2. FEP
    3. Listmembers, I have searched (on-line only) unsuccessfully, for the family of Sylvie/ia HARMON, reputed second wife of Willis WEST, Sr. of Sampson County. I have records to show that the eldest son of Sylvie and Willis, Briton/Brittain WEST, was born 1808 Sampson County. If in fact, Briton was their eldest son, that suggests Sylvie and Willis were married prior to 1808; therefore, I am looking for a HARMON family in/near Sampson County on both the 1800 and 1810 census enumerations. I am hoping someone can help me locate Sylvie's birth family. Thanks for any information. Fran powell@closecall.com

To satisfy this judgement, Willis' 200A were sold by the Sheriff to the highest bidder, Bartram (Bartholomew) GAYNEY (sic). I am interested in learning: 1. whether Bartholomew returned the lands to Willis by either gift or sale? 2. what was the cause of William HAIR's judgement against Willis? 3. was this Bartholomew the father of Willis's wife, Sarah GAINEY/GAYNEY? Thanks for any help/suggestions. Fran powell@closecall.com

In 1787 Adam Runey was discharged for paying anymore Poll Tax, because he was over the age of 60, this would make him being born ca. 1727. Does anyone know anything about him or his family? Also, I'm looking for a Samuel DEBOSE Rainey, he was in the Civil War- Confederate- Infantry- 2 nd- Battalion- Georgia Infanty. I found him listed in the Wayne Co./ Dobbs Co. NC book, where someone has gone him on him, but there is no dates or names listed. 2. FEP
    3. Listmembers, I am searching for parentage of Sylvie HARMON who married Willis WEST, possibly Sampson Co., 1807 or so. I have been unable to locate any HARMON family within two pages of Willis's residences on the census enumerations of both 1800 and 1810. I am using HQ rather than census films. Does any researcher have information on the parentage of Sylvie HARMON? Thanks. Fran powell@closecall.com

    2. Lura
    3. Fran and others interested in McClam, Using the NC State Archives MARS (Manuscript and Archives Reference System) available at http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/MARS.HTM I see that William McClam obtained 5 land grants in Duplin County between 1773 and 1780. Also Sampson McClam received 2 land grants in Duplin County in 1762. Knowing that many of the early Duplin settlers came from the northeast, I looked and found a Daniel McClam referenced on the deed of John Williams shown as Edgecombe and Tyrrell Counties in the Granville Proprietery Land Office in 1752. I can't post the graphic images of those card files on the list, but if anyone would like to have them you can get them at the site above or I will be glad to send them to you. MARS is a great tool. 2. Here is just part of the mil. site I was talking about. Donna American Civil WarSoldiers Enlisted H Co. 20th Inf Reg. NC &Officers This company, known as the "Independent Blues" and as "Sampson No 1", was raised in Sampson County where it enlisted on May 10, 1861. It was mustered into state service at Fort Caswell, Brunswick County, June 18, 1861, and was assigned to this regiment as Company H. After it was mustered into the regiment the company functioned as a part of the regiment and its history for the war period is reported as a part of the regimental history. The information contained in the following roster of the company was compiled principally from a company muster-in roll dated July 5, 1861, and from company muster rolls for June 18-October 1861; March-October 1863; and March-December 31, 1864. No company muster-rolls were found for the period prior to June 18, 1861; for November 1861-February 1863; November 1863-February 1864; or for the period after December 31, 1864. In addition to the compamy muster rolls, Roll of Honor records, receipt rolls, hospital records, prisioner of war records, and other primary records, supplemented by state pension applications, United Daughters of the Confederacy records, and postwar rosters and histories, all provided useful information.
