Did this William M. Wilson come from Rutherford Co. NC William M(Morgan?) WILSON married Caroline Earnhardt in Rowan Co. NC. She remarried a Burgess at the death of William M. Wilson in 1861--that was the source of confusion. William M. Wilson was born 1823 (probably in NC but maybe in VA), because he was age 27 in the 1850 census; however, the census taker could have gotten this incorrect.. He was a silversmith, as shown in the 1850 Rowan Co. NC census, living in the Shaver Hotel. Closeby may be a son or brother named Henry Wilson, age 17, also a silversmith. William M. Wilson and Caroline Earnhardt had only one child (Clara Bell Wilson, whom. J. F. Pace in Rowan Co., NC abt. 1874). I cannot find William M. Wilson in the 1860 RowanCo.
