Lee, This information you found is not far fetched. One of my Yelton ancestors, James Yelton, supposedly worked in a Mica mine in SC. He lived and married in the Rutherfordton area of NC. His widow later moved with her 2nd husband to Mitchell Co., NC where my Yelton's and Harrell's got together. The Yelton's came to the Rutherford Co. area from Amhurst, VA and for a time lived in Iredell Co., before going on south to Rutherford. They were originally from Stafford Co., VA. and the three brothers, Charles, James and William eventually moved to KY. A lot of their children did too, but James oldest son John stayed in Rutherford and a younger son Charles went to TN. Time frame: James Yelton was in Iredell Co., NC in the 1810 Census was born in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA 15 Jul 1749 John Yelton born c. 1776 prob. Stafford Co., VA Married Mary Polly Deck 30 Aug 1806 Rutherford, NC James Yelton born 1807, Rutherford, NC died 1838 (supposedly from Mica Mine Lung Disease) married Mary Canup in 1827. who then married William P. Hutchins in 1840 in Rutherford Co., NC they moved to Yancey/Mitchell Co. Also, we know there were Harrells in the Rutherford Co. area at an early date. Thanks for this information Lee, I will see if I can follow up on it. Iris
