    3. Folks, the website is not going offline as far as I know. I am 71 years old and in good health. I will maintain the website for free as long as I am able to maintain it. No matter what we would like we will not live forever and when I wilt away the website will disappear. The idea of letting Old Tryon have the CD's to market is the only way that I can insure that all the work I have done will be available for the future. Nobody can copy the material to CD's and give it away for free. As far as Mac users go I just don't know but since after it is uploaded to the IP server and a Mac can access it I would guess that the website would work the same. Rather than do this on the list check the "What's New" page on my website at http://www.rfci.net/wdfloyd and I will explain the whole thing there. I will be working on that today and I would still appreciate your thoughts on the project. Bill

    3. Thanks for the clarification. I think it is good to plan for the future and especially for a website that is so vital to the local history as yours is. You've always been so adamant about things being free, I was wondering what had happened. But reality being what it is, you are, as always, soooo right! You will probably never know how deeply appreciated you are. Marge Gambrills, MD ----- Original Message ----- From: "W. D. 3. Bill, Would it be possible for Old Tryon to offer the CDs and to set up a website accessible by yearly fee? This would be AFTER you are no longer able to maintain the site yourself. Just a thought. I have NO IDEA how much you spend to maintain the site, plus all the money you've spent doing the research. But, please know, that your hard work and expense is much appreciated. Cecelia

    3. Hello Bill, I think your idea will be a winner for all involved. Allowing Old Tryon to sell the CDs will help with their income; libraries and societies with no internet access can purchase the CDs for their researchers to enjoy; folks using dial-up can purchase them to save on their online fees; travelers could purchase them to carry on research trips (find a name that looks familiar, pop the CD into the old laptop & take a look); and we who like to surf can view the site in real time. As stated, we are all winners. Preserving your hard work for future generations is absolutely essential and this is a wonderful way in which to guarantee nothing is lost. I think you should go ahead with your plan as quickly as possible.
