It is my understanding that the bulk of the Whiteside(s) lived in what is now Lake Lure (a recent man-made lake). The lake (Lake Lure) was built in 1926, If you look at the census records for Rutherford County, up to 1870 you find Whiteside community, after that date it is Golden Valley. Most of my ancestors lived in the early Whiteside Community, later after 1870 the same families were living in Golden Valley. I live only about 5 miles from GV. I agree most of the Whiteside families did and still do live west of Rutherford in the Munford's Cove, Bill's Creek, Uree and what is now Lake Lure area. (most of my ancestors came from this area, including me) But there were a few Whiteside families who lived in the Whiteside Community but not many. Even the road leaving Rutherford to this area today is called Whiteside Road. I will try to find more information.
