Hello, I have been going thru the pleas and quarter sessions from about 1800-1830 looking for my Wilkinsons, Nowlins and associated families. I normally don't make notes of other families but some of the information I have found lately is too good not to pass on, in case something might help someone. There has been information I haven't yet seen in the court records which mentions husbands, wives, places and dates. They are (not word for word, a synopsis): July Court 1825 Deeds: Lewis Neighbors, wife Keziah Jesse Ward wife Elizabeth Thomas Williams wife Mary John Goodbread wife Nancy Charles Nabors wife Nancy James Ward wife Patsy William Grant wife Sarah July Court 1826 Hugh Quin and Reuben Wilkins proved the marriage contract between Green P. Palmer and Polly Wilkins dated February 8, 1826 September Court 1826 Partitions of estates: Drawn by George DePriest in Right of his wife Elizabeth situated on Main Broad River contains 90 acres valued at $200 - (note: I didn't write down whose estate was partitioned, but can check if anyone is interested) Partition of the estate of Lunceford Bagwell, (wife Sarah) (can check who received land if anyone is interested) Partition of estate of Francis Brown (can check who received land if anyone is interested) Partition of estate of Edwin Hannon: William L. Mills, in right of his wife Elizabeth 69 acres and half the house value $700. James V. Mills in right of his wife Maria (?) 110 acres valued at $700 January Court 1827 Letter mentioned: From Jonathan Magness of Independence County in the territory of Arkansas to Morgan Magness. John Redmon clerk of court, Independence AR also mentioned. Deed: From John Lewis of Rutherford County to John T. Lewis of Pendleton District South Carolina for negro girl Rachel. August 25, 1826 April Court 1827 Edmund Foster files an application for pention for services as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Walter B. Rutherford, native of Scotland, immgrated to the United States in 1815, settled in Rutherford County 1819, desirous to become a citizen of North Carolina. ___________________________________________________________________ I hope someone will find this useful. I do urge anyone who can to look through the minutes: pleas and quarter sessions, you can order them thru any Family History Center for a month loan. There is a lot of interesting details about Rutherford County life in the court records; who sold "spiritous liquors" out of their homes, who was disputing with who, punishments (some graphic...) and other tidbits. It is time consuming, but I have enjoyed it tremendously. I have found much useful information on my family. Just recently I found a land dispute based on a deed between my 4th great grandfather Thomas Wilkinson and John C. Boys (Boice?) and William Martin in 1825. I have looked through all of the deeds for Thomas listed in the deed index, but apparently this one was missed. I now will be going through the deeds during that time period to see this missing deed and any others. I knew the land descriptions in Thomas deeds (both buying and selling) weren't matching up, but couldn't figure out how to reconcile it. It may be that some aren't listed in the deed index.
