    3. I hope you fine these old articles interesting, transcribed from the Spartanburg Herald newspaper, S.C. SPINDALE HOUSE IS DESTROYED BY FLAMES -1931 Rutherford, Nov.3.- A house owned by MRS. J.C. TWITTY at Spindale burned late this afternoon, the origin of the blaze being undetermined. JAMES ANDERSON DIES AT RUTHERFORDTON- 1931 Rutherfordton, Nov.3.- JAMES ANDERSON, 53, well known farmer and livestock dealer of Greenville, Tenn., died suddenly here today of paralysis. Mr. Anderson came here with a load of hogs and suffered an attack at 10 o'clock. He died three hours later. Funeral services will be held at Greenville Wednesday. RUTHERFORD CHILD STRUCK BY AUTO- 1943 Rutherfordton, Nov.26.- CARROLL FOWLER, 5, died this morning from injuries received Wed. afternoon late by a hit-and -run driver. The boy was crossing the road near his home one mile west of Rutherfordton on the Polk Co. highway when a '34 model Chevrolet struck him knocking him about 75 feet. The driver did not stop. Officers are trying to apprehend him. He is survived by his parents, J.T. FOWLER and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at a Methodist church near Mill Springs. HUGHES RITES SET- 1943 Rutherfordton, Nov. 26.- R. HUGHES, 82, well known retired farmer and leading citizen died last night at his home seven miles north of Rutherfordton. Funeral services will be held at Sharon Meth. Ch. He is survived by his wife, five daughters, MRS. A.G. STREET, and MRS.G.D. LAWING of Union Mills, MRS. J.D. MAUNEY of Lyman, MRS. R.K. HALL of High Point, and MRS. E.R. HAYES of Martinsville, Va. and four sons, ROBERT HUGHES at home, E.S. HUGHES of Gastonia, F.C. HUGHES of King Mtn. and W.B. HUGHES of Charlotte. Thirty-seven grandchildren survive, ten of whom are in the service, and ten great grandchildren. MR. Hughes was a native of Alabama but had lived near Shelby for several years. He was a cotton buyer for Henrietta Mills for many years and had lived near Union Mills the past 18 years. Free posting- nancie
