I just browsed through the book I originally cited (available on HeritageQuest if your library has a subscription), and it states that Charles was Charrs Crawford Lewis, son of John and Sarah Taliaferro Lewis, born Albemarle Co,., VA in 1761, married to Elizabeth Russell. His death is reported as being in Rutherford Co. in 1833. There is an entire chapter devoted to him and his descendants.
