March 1, 1904- Gaffney Ledger LUTHER VEAZEY was killed at the Durham Hosiery Mill, in Durham Sat morning. VEAZEY was caught by a shafting, the results of an effort on the part of his younger brother to save him as he then thought. His skull was crushed and left leg broken. The deceased age 16. MR. J.O. WATERS of Gambles Store, N.C. was in the city yesterday, and added his name to our list. Mr. WATERS is a prominent shingle and lumber man of his section and sells much of his product in Gaffney. SAM B. TURNER, a prominent citizen of Earls, N.C. was a Ledger visitor Saturday. LEO LITTLE, who has been located at Hickory N.C., for sometime doing work for the D.A. THOMPKINS Co. of Charlotte spent Sunday in the cityat his home. He left yesterday for Wadesboro, N.C. GOIN DOGGETT of Charlotte was in the city yesterday. Protracted services in the Buford St. Meth. church, South, will immediately follow the Dist.Conference, which REV. GEO. D. HERMAN, of Kings Mtn., N.C. will assist. Feb.1917-Gaffney Ledger MRS. C.C. GREEN and little daughter, ADDIE LIPSCOMB, who have been spending several weeks in Asheville returned home last week to Asbury. Hickory Grove- MR. W.E. GOOD, who has been in bad health for some time, underwent a serious operation at the Fennell Infirmary at Rock Hill, last week. The latest report he is doing as nicely as could be expected. Messrs. W.R. SMARR and H.C. GOOD spent last Sunday at the Infirmary with MR. GOOD. MR. and MRS. A.B. MORGAN of Double Shoals, N.C. are guest of their daughter, MRS. B.B. MORGAN on Smith Street. MR. and MRS. JOE HAMRICK have returned to Gaffney after a short visit to relatives in N.C. Feb. 1914- Gaffney Ledger MISS MILLICIENT BLANTON, who spent her Christmas vacation here with her grandparents, MR. and MRS. A.N. WOOD, left Wed. for her home in Shelby, N.C. MISS MARY BROWN has returned from Charlotte where she spent the past week visiting relatives. MRS. T.J. HAMES has returned to Asbury from Rutherfordton, after spending two weeks with relatives. April 6, 1951- Gaffney Ledger MRS. HAMES TAKEN BY DEATH At age 58, she died at her residence on route 6 Friday afternoon. She had been ill one year. A native of Cherokee Co. Mrs. HAMES was a widow of BROADUS HAMES, who was killed in action in France during WW1. Funeral services will be conducted at the Corinth Bapt. church Sunday with REV. W.J. SPRINGLE and the REV. B.L. HOKE officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include; two sisters, MRS. THOMAS HARMON of Cliffside and MISS MOLLY MASON of route 6 , and one brother, JAMES R. MASON of route 6. March 6, 1951- Gaffney Ledger CLAUDE NANCE DIES 45 year old textile worker died Sunday at Alma Mills following an illness of four weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at the East Gaffney Bapt. church by the REV.L.N. EPLEY and the REV. C.E. HAMPTON of the Cherokee Ave. Bapt. church. Interment will be in the Mountain View cem. at Blacksburg. Pallbearers will be E.R. and L.D. PIERCE, DRAYTON QUEEN, HARVEY CAMPBELL, OSCAR WHITE and EMMETT SHIVERS. MR. NANCE is survived by his wife, MRS. ILA PARKER NANCE; two sons, ROBERT, SR. and CLAUDE DEAN NANCE; his mother, MRS. ALICE NANCE; two sisters, MRS. WALTER ELLIOTT of Gaffney, and MISS NETTIE NANCE of Clinton; and 7 brothers, ERNEST, JOHN, FREEMAN and CURTISS NANCE of Gaffney, NOAH NANCE of Spindale, N.C. , ELBERT NANCE of Columbia and JUNE NANCE of Kings Mountain, N.C. Feb. 6, 1939- Gaffney Ledger BOY IS KILLED ON SCOOTER Charlotte, N.C. Feb.6.- GEORGE WILLIAMS, age9, was killed and his companion, DAVID BLACKWELL, age 7, injured while riding on a 'scooter' here Sat. night when a truck hit them.
