    3. Jan.13, 1903 THROUGHOUT THE TAR HILL STATE DR. JAMES GRAHAM RAMSEY of Salisbury, one of the last surviving members of the Confederate Congress, died in the 80th year of his age at the home of his son, Postmaster JAMES H. RAMSEY , Saturday morning. REV. WILLIAM M. SAUNDERS and J.N. BISHOP, two Seventh day Adventists, were committed to jail in Statesville Friday by Squire JOHN W. ELLISON, of Fawlston township because they would not pay the price and costs in a case tried before him in which they were found guilty of working on Sunday on their dwelling houses. MR. M.H. JORDAN of Hickory Grove, Mecklenburg Co., sold his cotton on the Charlotte market and after a round of the stores, he wound up short $75. He does not know whether he lost it or whether he was 'touched' for it. At any rate, he is short and would like to recover his lost money. March 10, 1903 THOMAS WARLICK, of Hickory, aged 14 years tips the scales at 220 pounds. If THOMAS keeps on growing at his rate, he will be a big man at 21 years. NANNIE MARTIN, who gave her home to Mecklenburg County, died in the Lincoln Co. poor house. The girl had eloped with a tramp by the name of MARK PATRICK and the man deserted her, leaving her sick and destitute. DANIEL BOONE, a descendant of the illustrious pioneer of that name, died at his residence in Greensboro , aged 65. His two sons, one an engineer on the Southern, the other on the S.A.L. railroad, arrived in time to be present at his demise. HENRY YOUNG, who murdered J.H. WILLIAMSON in Armour's bar in Hamlet Sat. night, was captured at Monroe by the police there, who received four dred dollars reward. YOUNG is a brother of the jailor of Rockinghham. TOM DUCKWORTH, a laborer at the marble quarries 3 miles from Murphy, got his hand fastened in the mechinery of a pump and lost the ends of two of his fingers. He underwent an operation and understood that he is doing well. JAN.27, 1903 MR. B.L. WEDERFELLER of Charlotte was found dead in his bed at the Orton Hotel in Wilmington Sat . evening. Engineer FISHER who was injured Thursday in a collision between two Southern Railway freight trains at Connelly Springs in Burke Co. ,died Friday. The right arm of MR. J.H. SPARKS, of Winston was amputated close to the shoulder at the hospital Friday night. The patient rested very well during the night. He was bitten on the right arm by one of his young lions a few days ago and blood poison set in later. NOV.7, 1888 REV. R.G. PEARSON, an evangelist who has been laboring with great success in N.C. the past year, is to conduct a meeting in this city during the month of Jan. Perhaps in all thousand or two professing Christians have publicly vowed a better life. He has gone out like a sweet perfume into the county around and will be like the breath of life in this valley of death for years to come. JAN.5, 1932 R.N. WATKINS, 81, farmer, died at his home in the State Line community. Funeral services were conducted at the State line Bapt. church. MR. WATKINS was well known and highly respected where he had lived all of his life. Following the death of his wife some years ago, he employed a housekeeper and continued to maintain his home. He is survived by a daughter, MRS. BUN MARTIN of Cowpens and two sons,JOHN of Avondale, and BROADUS of Cliffside, Rutherfordton Co. and the following brothers and sisters; JONAS WATKINS and MRS.JAMES WOOD of Maschula, Miss. and former Deputy Sheriff JOE E.
