RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. July 7.- MRS. THERON WILSON and MISS LELA MORRIS were joint hostesses at nine tables of bridge at the home of the former Thurs. afternoon in honor of MRS. WILSON'S sister, MRS. JOHN LONGMIRE of Andersonville, Tenn., and MRS. GEO. W. PROFFITT, recent bride. Tables were arranged on the veranda in the lioving room and dining room. Large bowls of pink roses, queen ann's lace and larkspur were used as an effective decor. MRS. HICKS LOGAN won top score prize, green glazed flower bowl. MRS. LONGMIRE was presented silk lingerie and Mrs. PRIFFITT an enameled bulb bowl. MRS. The DAVIS DICKERSON MILLS chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, held their regular meeting at the home of MRS. K.E. SIMPSON on N. Washington Street Friday. The chapter voted to donate $5. each to the old soldiers home in Raleigh and the home in Fayetteville for spending money. The chapter has been instrumental in securing a pension for a number of Confederate Veterans who were not on the pension roll. MISS JENNIE CARPENTER was in charge of the program. DEATHS July 16.- Funeral services for MRS. BERTHA ELEN BRYSON, w/o W.O. BRYSON of Marion, N.C. were held at Oak Grove cem. Services were conducted by Rev. J.N. WISE assisted by Rev. MR. WALKER of Marion Bapt. ch. and Rev. MR. FOSTER, pastor of Marion Presbyterian church. MRS. BRYSON was born Sept. 12, 1891 and died Sunday. She had been a member of the Christian church since she was 14 years old. Surviving her are her husband, W.O. BRYSON; 4 children, VIRGINIA, EDNAR, JAMES and ELMER; her father;, DR. JAMES G. REYNOLDS of Marion; 3 sisters, MRS. LUCY RHODES of Hiss, N.C. , MRS. SARAH ELIZABETH SUTTLES of Clyde, N.C. and MRS. ZORA PONDER of Marion; 4 brothers, DELMER, ELMER, G.M. and CARL REYNOLDS of Marion and one half- brother, J.V. REYNOLDS of Marion. TRYON, N.C. July 7.- MRS. J.B. HESTER JR., has returned from a visit to her parents, MR. and MRS. GEORGE CANFIELD of Detroit, Mich. MRS. JOHN MOUNT of Richmond, Va. is making an extended visit with her daughter, MRS. W.R. MaHAFFEY. Another daughter, MRS. KATHLEEN MASON who is frequent visitor here, has taken a house on Laurel Ave. for the summer and will have with her, her 3 small daughters who have been staying with MRS. MaHAFFEY.
