    3. Spartanburg Herald articles LANDRUM PEOPLE AT BRIDGE PARTY Landrum, July 8.1928- MRS. ARCHIE BLACKMON was hostess at a charming bridge party Sat., entertaining in honor of her guest; MRS. J.V. THOMPSON of Flat Rock, N.C. The home was artistically arranged with a profusion of summer flowers. The out of town guest were; MRS. THOMPSON of Flat Rock, MRS. CLAUD IVES of Edgefield, MRS. WALTER HUNTER of Charlotte, MISS PAULINE SHANKLE and MRS. BEE LEWIS of St. Petersburg, Fla. and MRS. MORROW FOSTER of Henderson, N.C. At the conclusion of the games the hostess assisted by MISS MAMIE CARPENTER, served an ice course. DEATHS- 1928 DORIS M. LEONARD, daughter of MR. and MRS. C.O. LEONARD of Spartanburg, died at her home Sunday morning. The body will be sent to Lexington, N.C. this morning for funeral. She is survived by her parents and one brother. C.O. Jr. Funeral service for MRS. MATTIE COWANS, 45, of Morganton, N.C. were held at the Clifton Pres. ch. yesterday , the REV. W.P. HORNE of Clifton officiating. Interment in the Zion Hill cemetery. She died at her home in Morganton after a short illness. Survived by one daughter, PEARLY COWANS of Morganton, N.C. CAMPOBELLO-July 9. 1928 MRS. RALPH WALL has returned from a visit with relatives in Hendersonville. REV. and MRS. W.Y. HENDERSON are spending their vacation at Mars Hill, N.C. RETURN FROM ROCK HILL MRS. J.C. BUSH and son, J.C. BUSH and MRS. A.D. CLEMENT and children have returned to their home in Inman after a visit to MRS. JOHN F. DICKSON in Rock Hill. SUICIDE PACT- 1930 Rutherfordton, Nov.19.- While out rabbit hunting this morning on the farm of MRS. PHILBECK of near Lattimore, BARNEY SAILORS, young white man found the bodies of EMMETT WEAVER, young white married man and MRS. EULA DOSTER, young white married woman lying close together cold in death. They were shot to death in a lovers suicide pact, according to a note left by the woman, which she addressed to her mother and said party, " We love each other and cannot live together, hence we have decided to end it all. Please look after my twin boys and collect my insurance. I have cried over this and worried till my heart is sick. You cannot worry over this more than I have. I love him so I am going to die with him. " The coroners jury decided that WEAVER killed the woman, then killed himself. A pistol was found in his hands. MRS. DOSTER has been parted from her husband, while WEAVER has three children. They worked in the Ora Mill, between Lattimore and Shelby and both disappeared last night. The note was found in her pocket. 1909 Mt. AIRY, N.C. - The Mount Airy cotton mill will be sold at Public auction on Aug. 2nd to the highest bidder. 1909 Asheville, N.C. July 5.- South side ave. presented a busy scene today as eight fire companies were practicing for the tournament to be held in connection with the fireman's convention . The firemen will give a dance at Overlook Wednesday night. PERSONALS-1916 MRS. JOHN CONNOR is spending a few days in the city with friends. MR. and MRS.CONNOR will make their home in Kinston, N.C. in the future. MISS LAURA CHAPMAN is visiting MISS LOIS MONTGOMERY in Tryon. MISS SOPHIE CARLISLE is spending this week with MISS MARY ANDREWS in Free post- nancie Tryon.
