I'm new to this list, so don't know how things are done here, but when in doubt, jump in. My great aunt, Mary Mullen, had a school for colored people in the town of Uree, North Carolina, about 1900. I am interested in finding out as much as is possible about the school and Mary Mullen and her family. She married a man named Hench. They had a daughter, Ruth, who was born in 1905, perhaps in Uree. Her parents died when she was very young and she was raised by relatives in the Seattle, Washington area. Ruth has since died without ever knowing anything about her parents. Second item. My grandmother visited her sister, Mary Mullen Hench, in about 1902 with my aunt, Jessie Evangeline Rugh, who was two years old at the time. The child died while visiting there (maybe Uree). We don't have any death information on Jessie or know where she was buried. We are interested in finding out as much as we can about Jessie's death and internment. That's what we want. If someone can point me in the right directions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.... Jerry
Were your relatives Caucasian or African-American? About what year did Mr. Hench and Mary Mullen Hench die?
