    3. Lynn, The given name, Lorenzo Dow, is so uncommon I find it rather strange that my GGGrandfather, Lorenzo Dow Daves (1822-1920) is from that same area of North Carolina, McDowell Co. Your Lorenzo Dow Wesson, 1853-1894, is just one generation later than mine. I cannot find any connection in my data. Do you know of any. There were four known children of Lorenzo and Millie Taylor: Decatur Landrum, Columbus Mills, Martha, and Benjamine Taylor. Thank you for any information of a possible connection since this is my brick wall on the Daves Line. 1. [NCRUTHER-L] Uncommon Names

    3. Hi Dean, This answer falls into the "for what it is worth" category. I would look in the records for the area for a Lorenzo DOW. My g-grandfather was a Hodge Rayburn YELTON. It always sounded like Hodge Rayburn was a name in its own right and sure enough with enough digging - There was a Hodge Rayburn who was a popular county sheriff before my g-gfather was born. That was in Mitchell Co. I believe, but the same sort of thing could hold true about anywhere. Interestingly, I also have a John "Landrum" YELTON and a "Columbus Mills" YELTON. I suspect that there was some prominent people with those names in the Rutherford Co. area. And, that our ancestors were named for them. So, for what it's worth, that is "my" theory. I hope this helps, Iris Iris F. Reily e-mail list YELTON-L@rootsweb.com Cheryl's web site http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/ ~Y E L T O N~anywhere~anytime~

Lorenzo Dow was an itinerant Methodist preacher of the late 1700's and early 1800's. Many, many little boys were named after him--just as many little boys were named after Abraham Lincoln, Winfield Scott, William Henry Harrison, Francis Marion, Benjamin Franklin...the list goes on and on and I'll bet you have at least a few of those in your family background somewhere. I have them all! Though no Lorenzo Dows, as it happens. I do have a Louis Kossuth--and I had to do some digging to find out who he was! Here is a site for those of you with a Lorenzo Dow in the family tree: http://www.ourlittlecircle.com/lorenzo_dow_namesake.html Hope that helps clear up this mystery, so you can move on to the next one! *CERIDWEN* --
