MAN DIVES, BLEEDS TO DEATH Shelby, N.C. June 11.- FLAY CARPENTER, well known Shelby resident was fatally injured Tuesday in an accident at Lake James, near Morganton. It was understood here that he suffered deep lacerations and other injuries when he struck a snag in the water while attempting to dive into the lake. A cousin, WAYNE CARPENTER who was with him at the time reported that he bleed to death before medical attention could be rendered. He had left Shelby in the company of his wife and a party of friends for a fishing trip. MR. CARPENTER was a native of Cleveland county and was employed by the Champion Oil Co. of Shelby. Surviving are his wife; three young children, JO ANN CARPENTER, HILDA and FLAY, JR. his parents, MR. and MRS. JACOB CARPENTER of the Carpenter's Grove community; one sister, MRS. THOMAS VICKERS of Shelby. --- W. EURIE SNIPES Fayetteville, n.c. May 3.- W.EURIE SNIPES 44, Marion attorney and former professional baseball player died Thursday in the U.S. Veteran hospital here after a long illness. He played baseball once with the Chicago White Sox and several clubs in the Southeastern States. He was elected state senator from Marion Co. --- THOMAS PETTIGREW Tryon, May 1.- THOMAS PETTIGREW, 82, brother of MISS MARY PETTIGREW and MRS. ROBERT WOODSON of this city and former chairman of the board of directors of the American Ice Co. of N.Y. died at an Asheville hospital. A native of Eastern N.C., he was a nephew of the late Gen. Johnston Pettigrew who led the N.C. Confederate forces for some time. Surviving are his wife, MRS. MARY BAILEY PETTIGREW, a son, CHARLES PETTIGREW, both of Asheville and MRS.
