This is from the "North Carolina Gazetteer, A Dictionary of Tar Heel Places" by William S. Powell: (1) Island Ford, former passage over the Catawba River between Catawba and Irdell counties near the site of the dam, which forms Lookout Shoals Lake. Appears on maps of the Revolutionary period and on the Price map, 1808, as on of the northernmost fords over the river. (2) Island Ford, across Yadkin River in w Surry County near the community of Jonesville. Mentioned in local records as early as 1778. Hope this helps. Patricia
