    2. From: Peoples Bicentennial History Rutherford County: The little village of Harris in southern part of Rutherford County received its name from the Zadock Harris Family who settled there in 1826...... A post office had been establish at Island Ford, a few miles west of Harris's home in 1827. It had been discontinued in 1840, but Harris managed to get it re-established and moved to the stage coach stop in 1841. He was named postmaster at the time. Three of his sons served as Island Ford postmaster after the father's death in 1848. The office was finally discontinued in 1907... There is an Island Ford Rd. in the county today.
