    3. Cleveland Co. NC Townships 1 and 2 are located in what was once Rutherford land. Township 1 rests on the SC border. Township 3 is further east and is on land which was half Rutherford and half Lincoln before Cleveland's formation in 1842. The very southern portion of Township 3 was also enumerated as part of old York Dist. SC for about 3 decades. There was great disagreement with where the actual borderline should be. This is my area of descent, unfortunately it is very difficult to gather information from all four counties and 2 states. Please contact me if you have ancestors from Township 3 or have information about any of the 1886 inhabitants listed below.
