    3. Article from the Spartanburg Herald, dated July 29, 1942. RUTHERFORD HOME ATTRACTS GROUP OF SPARTANBURG MEN MANY INVESTIGATES 'HAUNTED' HOUSE Yesterday a group of four men from Spartanburg went to the house located about 8 miles north of Rutherfordton on highway 223, for the purpose of 'investigating' the strange happenings which are reputed to have occurred. Included who went were E.C. MOORE, and WENT MOORE of Cowpens, Sgt. JOHN GARY MOORE and TIP MOSELEY of Spartanburg. Arriving at the four-room cabin occupied by CLAUDE FORNEY, negro WPA worker and truch farmer, his wife and 3 children, the men were told of the strange occurrances that had disturbed the household and community. Forney told the men that stones would fall on the roof and surrounding yard, continuing all day but the 'storm' ceased at nighfall. The Rutherford tenant said that several erroneous reports had gotten out concerning the mystery but so far as he knew only stones had fallen. The event however had disturbed his wife and children enough to cause them to take her children to live with her mother. The house , which has been the subject of observation by hundreds of curiousity seekers during the past week is owned by G.L. OWENS of Rutherfordton. It is located in an open field with no woods nearby, dispelling the belief held by some that children were throwing stones. MR. OWENS said that he would welcome investigation by any competent authority. --- free post- no one should ever charge for my post. nancie --- Nancie O'Sullivan --- drayton5@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
