Hello, Don't know if this was your Joseph or not, but there was a J R McDaniel who served in Company E, 18th Regiment of NC Troops. He enlised on 7 September 1862. Also in the same company, S R McDaniel & W G McDaniel. Also, there was a Joseph J McDaniel in Company B, 34th Regiment of NC Troops who enlised on 26 Feb 1863. Some information on these soldiers can be found in the Weymouth Jordan books published by the NC Archives, "NC State Troops, A Roster, 1861-1865".
