1954 July 20-MADISON LEE CUDD, 71, who lived in Gaffney until 1940, when he moved to Henrietta, was found dead near his home in Henrietta. He apparently had been stricken while on his way back home from visiting the post office and had fallen into the drainage ditch by the side of the street some 3 or 4 hours before his body was discovered. Funeral services were conducted at the First Bapt. church in Henrietta, burial in the Arrowood cemetery near Chesnee. MR. CUDD is survived by his second wife, MRS. ETHEL WOOD CUDD, Henrietta ; 3 daughters, MRS. EVELYN WHITE and MRS. CORNELIA GUYTON, Gaffney and MRS. GAYNELLE GIBSON, Lincolnton, N.C., ; 5 sons, GRADY L., DEN?NE CUDD, Sptbg., PAUL CUDD, Caroleen, J.D. CUDD and LURLIE CUDD ; a step- daughter, MISS VIRGINIA GOODRICH, Henrietta; two sisters, MRS. FLORENCE BROWN, Landrum and MRS. LEILA JOHNSON, Startex; 26 grandchildren and 2 g- grandchildren. --- 1955 Forest City- A Spindale youngster in a sleek, green speedster won the first annual Soap Box Derby at Forest City Thursady morning as several hundred fans looked on. CECIL HARBISON, s/o MR. and MRS. C.H. HARBISON of Spindale, riding a racer sponsored by the Morganton Optimist Club, won the several lengths over LEONARD HOLLIFIELD of Forest City in the championship race. JIMMY DAVIS was third. A total of nine boys entered the race; TONY PADGETT, MIKE WATKINS, JIMMY REEPE, ROGER PETTY, ARNOLD HUGHES and KEN HARDIN. BABE OWENS was in charge of the event. Mayor ROBERT BLANTON was official starter and HORACE YELTON and STOVER DUNAGAN JR. were judges.
