Carolina Spartan , dated Oct. 18, 1864. [ Spartanburg , S.C. newspaper] I have been posting for days now, many articles from this time on Sptbg. and ran across this page and thought I'd share with you. I'm not sure where some of the Churches are but believe they were in or around Rutherford. OUR HONORED DEAD At the Annual Session of the King's Mountain Association, held at Beaver Dam, the committee on OBITUARIES presented the following report; giving the name and dates of those who have died in the present war, belonging to the different CHURCHES in the Association. It is a long catalogue of the honored dead, who have given up their lives in the cause of our country's struggle for liberty, and their names should be preserved and cherished as martyrs in the sacred cause. Every Church should do the same thing.... BETHEL CHURCH G.B. BRIDGES, a promising young man, a member of the foregoing church, who promise great usefulness in church and state attached himself to Co. B, 3rd Regiment, died at Marvel Hill, June 20th, 1862. L.J. POPE of Co. I, 56th Regiment, died, April 3rd, 1864, in his 32nd year of age. J.L. SPARKS of Co. B. Capt. LEO?THORP, com., N.C., died at Goldsborough, Jan. 21, 1862, in the 21st year of his age. J.B. McARTHUR, home on furlough, died April 3rd, 1863 in the 22nd year of his age. G.B. HAMRICK, of Co. B, 36th Reg., died at Raleigh, Jan. 17th, 1862, in his 29th year. JASON HAMRICK, of Co. B, 34th Reg., died at Richmond, Va. Aug. 31, 1862, in his 34th year of his age. ----- [ There's about seven more churches that I will continue sending. They are very difficult to read, so if I goof , do try to understand] nancie --- Nancie O'Sullivan --- drayton5@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
