    1. [NCRUTHER-L] using surname and query boards on the formerly genconnect system
    2. micajah
    3. Hi Fellow Researchers, I understand that the genconnect boards are changed and now have become part of ancestry.com or some such. I have been trying to get into the admin areas without any success so I am immediately delinking them from our county sites of lincoln, haywood, rutherford, cleveland and gaston I would apologize for the incovenience, but since I did not choose to sell the many, many names and queries already posted to them, I really don't feel that it is my fault or even our former county coordinators' fault that this has happened. Please just send me your queries and I will post them weekly to our county sites. Write them this way surname you are researching your name and email address Your query also please include in the subject line this phase only county name and surname example: lincoln county query or lincoln county surname anything else in the subject line is not necessary Thanks for your patience Debbie Fowler CC for lincoln, rutherford, gaston, cleveland and haywood counties

I have no interest in this company all, but I wanted to make sure everyone knows this is out there for us. The LDS/FamilySearch site has the entire US 1880 census AND index on CD-ROM. It is the neatest thing I have come across in quite a while (my personal opinion ONLY). It is not the images of the census. It has been extracted with heads of household and all members of the family, ages, sex and race. If you want to see the neighbors of the person you found, you just click "neighbors", and you can then browse through the entire township/district. I think there are 57 CDs in the entire box. It is divided into regions, i.e. Atlantic States, Southern States, Prairie States, New England States, Great Lakes States, Western States, AND CUMBERLAND STATES which includes Va., W.Va, Carolinas (NC/SC), Kentucky & TN. I assume you must buy the entire US census, as it didn't mention selling the individual regions. For those who want to know, it is $50 for the entire census is available through the FamilySearch web site. This is just for information to anyone who hasn't seen this project yet. Y'all may already know about it, as I am usually the last to know these things. Have a great day! Gloria

It highlights endangered battlefields from Gettysburg to Vicksburg. Thought this might be of interest to those of us whose ancestors fought for the glorious cause. 1. [NCRUTHER-L] A Visit to Rutherford County
    2. Stephanie Walton
    3. Hi all, I had the great opportunity to visit Rutherford County this past week. While I was there, I visited Walls Baptist Church and Cemetery. I got several pictures of grave stones while I was there. If you have a relative resting there and wish to find out if I got their stone, let me know I am will check. I also visited The Old Green Cemetery, also know as the Simon Davis Cemetery. It is very run down, but it was still neat to go. I also have photos of the stones there. I also got to visit the Old Hopewell Cemetery. While I was there, I went to the Old genealogy Society of Old Tryon. I was able to purchase a book called "Bridges To The Past". This book contains all the articles from the column in their newspaper reguarding genealogy. If you have a family from Rutherford county and would like me to do a look up for you, just let me know and I will gladly look an individual up for you. I hope that I can help someone with this information. Stephanie Walton

    1. [NCRUTHER-L] Pleasant Webb
    2. Larry Loiselle
    3. I am seeking any additional information that you can provide about the parents/siblings of Pleasant Webb. Thanks a million. ================================================================ Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB was born about ca 1760-1765. His son, Elias, said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland (not substantiated). He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina. In 1803 (reported to be 45 years old) he was in Scioto County, Ohio and was said to be a notorious character. Supposedly, he tried to break up a fight between James Bradley and the wife and children of James Quire (Squires). He ended up shooting Mr. Quire (Squires). After this incident at the Licks, he was driven out of that area. He is also said to have been a Tory during the Revolutionary War. Pleasant was in GreenupCounty, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830, he did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown (Margaret BLACKWELL?) had the following children: James WEBB (1786), Elias WEBB (1788), Thomas Hanley WEBB (1795), Aden WEBB (1797), Temperance WEBB (1799), William WEBB (1801), Margaret WEBB (1806), Sarah (Sally) WEBB (1809), and Baker WEBB (1811). 3. Hi Greg, I don't have a clue how you do this, but if you happen to find out, would be interested in seeing the map. With just one starting point, perhaps the whole county could be mapped. Manys the time I have asked Uncle Ken where exactly was Micajahs' land and the only 2 places for sure are where the old cabin stood and where he gave land to his daughter for her home....that house is still lived in today Something like this would be helpful to a lot of folks. Have you asked anyone who works at any of the big mapmaking companies? I have the following from "Bridges to the Past", p61 (the original article was in the Forest City paper 26 Aug 1970): "William Brooks Operated Grist Mill Near Ellenboro" William Brooks (b1745, d. 1844) "...entered land on the Sandy Run Creek, middle fork, in the year of 1794 and the grant was made in 1796 for 100 acres, located near the present Drury Dobbins Church in the edge of Cleveland County on the Ellenboro, Polkville Road. He operated a grist mill in that area for many years, and the mill shoals can still be seen..." " A few years later, on January 14, 1808, he purchased from William Berryhill an additional 300 acres of land 'Lying and being on both sides of Sandy Run', including the mill seat and mill." I have copies of the above grant and of the deed, with the metes and bounds, and am trying to determine the exact location of the mill. Would any of you be familiar enough with this land to give me a hand on this? I am trying to plot out these and a few other parcels of Brooks's land for this other person. Thanks for any help....
