I haven't asked this question in a long time..... Does anyone have any information on a Labon (Laban) SMITH or a Washington (Wash) SMITH who lived in Rutherford County during the mid to late 1700s. Also Labon's wife was Myra HEAD daughter of Phillip HEAD and Mary TANNER. All lived in Rutherford County during this time. I have reached a deadend on my SMITHs (I think Labon could be the son of Wash) and I have also reached a deadend on Phillip HEAD's ancestry. Can anyone help? Cheryl in Arkansas

Barbara, Mary Dyer, born Abt. 1761 or 1769 in Halifax Co, VA and died in Rutherford Co, N. C... She was the daughter of James Monroe DYER and Winifred TRIBBLE.. I am still trying to find documentation to support her parentage. Most of my DYERS seem to hail from Pittsylvania Co, VA, Halifax Co, VA, or Caroline Co., VA. I checked and I do not have a Sam DYER in my database, but that doesn't surprise me.. I have info back to 1650, and my direct line.. I do have the names of the siblings of my direct line [and some with birth and death years].. Will be happy to exchange info, if interested.. Since your Sam was born in 1825, and my Mary was born 1761 or 69, that's 64 years difference.. Mary might end up being a great aunt, or something.... [List Manager... forgive me if you don't want this communication on the List.. each list is different, so if that is the case, please just let me know.] Lanita.
Hi, I am a new subscriber to the List and am a direct descendant of Thomas Edward JUSTICE, SR and Mary DYER, through their son, Amos. Am searching for Tom Sr. and Mary's resting places as well as Tom's probate papers. I have the Wills of Tom's father, son and grandson, but do not have anything on him. Thomas Justice was a Baptist Minister. Lived 1781-1789 Rutherford CO, NC; 1790-1815 Buncombe Co. NC; 1816 Bedford Co, TN and then 1831 in Rutherford Co, NC. Would appreciate any help and would like to exchange information. Lanita Sconce Miller Wichita, KS I don't have any information but my relatives and I are struggling with our Sam Dyer. He was born (from census records) in 1825. We know that he lived in Polk Co. and Rutherford Co.. Do you know any more about your Mary Dyer? My Aunt before she died said her Grandfather was part Blackfoot Indian. And, that he was run out of Forest City (in Rutherford Co.) because of it. I will keep your information on hand. Your Mary might turn out to be my Sam's Aunt or relative. Barbara Dyer Channell

Lynn and Joyce: Thank you both for the follow-up. First thing, our Mullens were from Ohio, moved to New Gable, Pennsylvania in about 1878. Mary became a missionary and spent some time in Sierra Leone, in Africa, came back to the States and founded perhaps as many as three schools for black Africans. The one in Uree, I have a photo of, taken about 1900. It was a post card which was entitled "Mary Mullen School, Uree, North Carolina". If the school is still standing, I would certainly love to see a recent photo. [By the way, I live on the West Coast.] Is there someone at the Bill's Creek Baptist Church who would be willing to correspond with me? It is possible that the family never lived in Uree, and that Mary was only there for the school. I know nothing at all about the Reverend Hench or where he or Mary died. Only that it was a machinery caused death. One of my mother's notes indicates Boydton, Virginia as his place of death. Thanks for the input. ..... Jerry
Lynn, I'm from this area and pass by the Mary B. Mullen's school quiet often. This school is still there and they have done alot of work around the school in the last year. I was talking to my mother about the school and she said that she remembered the ladies of Bill's Creek Baptist Church talking about what a wonderful, kind, and helpful person she was. The area is now Lake Lure, NC in the Bill's Creek Community. We are having a reunion of Lorenzo Dow Wesson's descendants and are trying to reach any descendants of this daughter Susan May Wesson Green. Any help greatly appreciated! Lynn Wesson Chapel Hill, NC
Lynn: . Thanks for the questions? I realize I know more than I noted... . Mullens and Rughs were Caucasian. I believe Hench was also. ( He is noted in a letter as "Reverend Hench") . Ruth was born about 1905. Her father died "leaving his wife with a four year old daughter." (c.1909). He was supposedly killed in an industrial accident and may have been in Boynton (sp), Virginia at the time. . Mary Mullen Hench "died about two years later.." (c. 1911) . jerry
Were your relatives Caucasian or African-American? About what year did Mr. Hench and Mary Mullen Hench die? I am seeking any additional information that you can provide about the parents/siblings of Pleasant Webb. Thanks a million. ================================================================ Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB was born about ca 1760-1765. His son, Elias, said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland (not substantiated). He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina. In 1803 (reported to be 45 years old) he was in Scioto County, Ohio and was said to be a notorious character. Supposedly, he tried to break up a fight between James Bradley and the wife and children of James Quire (Squires). He ended up shooting Mr. Quire (Squires). After this incident at the Licks, he was driven out of that area. He is also said to have been a Tory during the Revolutionary War. Pleasant was in Greenup County, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830, he did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown (Margare ?) had the following children: James WEBB (1786), Elias WEBB (1788), Thomas Hanley WEBB (17! 95), Aden WEBB (1797), Temperance WEBB (1799), William WEBB (1801), Margaret WEBB (1806), Sarah (Sally) WEBB (1809), and Baker WEBB (1811). I am looking for any info on Elizabeth Morris that married Thomas Dalton in Rutherford Co NC on Feb 24 1787. I suspect she is the sister of my William Morris that married Christianna(Christian) Simmons . William Married in VA in 1793. I am trying to determine if these Morris folks are the children of John Morris that William Grant raised. Thanks Vicky Genealogy- chasing your own tale. Genealogy without good sources is mythology.
