    3. Alfred Webb, born about 01 Feb 1800 in the Old Tryon area of NC became a Baptist preacher of some note, both in NC and, later, in Georgia. He was pastor to my ancestors and their cousins both in NC and in Georgia, and at least one of his and one of his wife's siblings married into my dad's family. I do not show Nancy as being one of his siblings, but I have only tried to verify my part of his family. Hope this helps. I found Nancy WEBB HANEY remarried in AL to a John Edmoundson/Edmundson, and on the 1860 Census she was with her new husband and age was 54. This would make her born abt 1805-06. If she married Robert HANEY she would have been abt 15-16 in 1821. Since the bond shows a JP who must have officiated, would that mean there was no church marriage or that she was underage and needed parental consent? Was Alfred WEBB related to her? Does anyone know if the marriage bonds contain ages of the bride and groom? Since Robert HANEY was born 7/30/1792, this would make him almost double her age in 1821 (age 29) if she were born 1805-6. Is this not unusual? Does anyone have info on Jonathan WEBB or Alfred WEBB in Rutherford CO? Any church, cemetery info in the area for WEBB names? Thank you. I did locate a Jonathan WEBB on the 1810 Census in Rutherford CO with a female under age 10. There was also a Nancy WEBB living alone, age bet 16-25. Just wonder how they tie together. 1. [NCRUTHER-L] Johnsons
    2. Bill Smart
    3. There are so many Johnsons in this world that it certainly makes it tough to find the right ones. Actually I am trying to research the Johnson side of my family and can't get past Edmund Johnson of Cleveland County. The family lived in Twp. 11 (northwestern part of the county) and some spread over into Golden Valley (northeastern part of Rutherford County). What I have is that Edmund (Edmond) Johnson was born in April 1827 in Cleveland County. He married Sarah Butler (DOB 8/1923) around 1846. He served in the CSA, Co. C, 38th Regiment of NC Troops, enlisting at age 36. They had these children: James Johnson (Nov. 1846-June 1925) Nancy A. Johnson (c. 1849-?) Rubin (?) Johnson (c. 1853-?) Sarah Johnson (c. 1855-?) John H. Johnson (c. 1858-bef. 1900) Susanah Johnson (May 1858-?) Joseph Johnson (c. 1860-?) Fannie (Frances) Johnson (Mar. 1866-June 1947), m. Joel H. Earwood A number of family members were buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Briar Creek, Cleveland County, including Edmund. If you know anything about the ancestors of descendants of the family, I would love to hear from you. Or, if you know anyone doing research on the Johnsons in that area of Cleveland-Rutherford Counties, I'd appreciate any leads. Thanks. Bill

    2. Greg Lovelace
    3. Hi, everyone I am looking for information on a woman known as "Big Ola" who was a resident of Rutherford Co., probably somewhere near Rutherfordton. I have information saying that she married Onzie Gordon Lovelace probably around the mid-to-late 1930s in Gaston Co. In 1958, the informant on his death certificate was Ola M. Lovelace. I would like to discover her identity. One of my cousins who lives in the county says, "Must be referring to 'Big Ola' as she was known forty or so years ago. Ran a fruit stand/small store on the left of Old Hwy 74 about ten or twelve miles West of Rutherfordton. Of course Rutherford County was completely dry at that time and she was just one of many bootleggers..." Another cousin says her name may have been Griffin. Do any of you have any information about her? Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg

    3. Article from the 'Confederate Veteran' magazine, dated March, 1929, page 107. In the passing of Major FRANK HULL, of Shelby, N.C., on Jan.19, another honored veteran of the gray has pitched his tent on the eternal camping ground. Death came to him while on a visit to his daughter, MRS. L.A. CROWELL, of Lincolnton, N.C. He was one of Shelbys most prominent citizens and the oldest, and had countless friends throughout the section where he had lived his long and useful life. His years numbered 94 . He was born in Lincoln Co., Oct. 27, 1834, a s/o Major Hull and Peggy Gross Hull. His grandfather, Benjamin Hull, was a Revolutionary soldier and held the position of 'bodyguard' to George Washington. Frank Hull was married to Miss Mary Ann Grigg, d/o Col. P.T. Grigg, in Feb. 1858 and this union of nearly a half century was a most happy one. Entering the War Between the States as a soldier of the 18th North Carolina Infantry, Lane's Brigade, A.P. Hill's Division, young Hull acquitted himself heroically. He was captured and held prisoner for months, after his release, returned home, drooping in spirit, to take up the broken threads of life and start over again... he held office of civil judge in his township until going to Shelby to reside. He was the father of eleven children. He was laid to rest by the side of his beloved wife in Sunset Cemetery at Shelby. [ Mrs. L.E. 2. Greg Lovelace
    3. Does anyone have access to a copy of this record? Rosh-Hawkins Bailey, compiler, Delayed Births of Rutherford County, NC (Caroleen, NC: Jabryson Publishing, 1991) If so, I would dearly love to have a transcript of the entry for Betty Ray Lovelace, born 8 Mar 1934. I am particularly interested in when the entry was made and who is listed as parents. Thanks! Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg

Here is the readme file for that section: "RUTHERFORD COUNTY MAPS The maps in this section are in JPG format and are made available for download. The scans were done at a high resolution in order to allow zooming in on the names. They are HUGE files, and if you try to view them with your browser, the page will take forever to load completely. Please feel free to download the files to your hard drive and view them with a graphics viewer. I use Netscape, and to download files without viewing, I right-click on the link, then choose the "Save link as" option. Other browsers have a similar option. I hope these are useful. Please see the file descriptions (the .txt files) for information on the maps." Hope this helps.... Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg
