    1. [NCRUTHER-L] Additional info on my web site
    2. Kathleen Summers
    3. I have added some interesting information to my web site. It is a transcription of a document located in Henderson County Deed Book #1, page 133 - 138. The document is the formation of the school districts in Henderson County. There were 31 districts. It gives the boundaries of each and the names of the School Committeemen appointed. There are many names mentioned in the document. It was recorded April 17, 1840. My site will look different at first. I have changed the home page because it is doing "double duty" - just click on the gate on the right hand side of the page to go to the Genealogy information. Hope to have more up soon! www.ksummers.com Kathy Summers

    3. As Memorial Day approaches, I was reminded again that this is the time where family members wish they were nearby to place flowers on graves, but can't because of distance, health, or whatever. When you shop for those memorial flowers and wreaths for your own loved ones, won't you join me in picking up a couple of $1 bunches of flowers to place on those lonely graves where no flowers are placed? Do it for the family members who may not be close enough or healthy enough to do it.. do it for those who have long since gone but used to care for the graves. Do it, just because you're a family historian, and care about these who have passed before us. Do it, because it just feels good! It is a special feeling know that these who would have been without, can now show that someone cared! Lanita Sconce Miller Any family tree produces some lemons, some nuts and a few bad apples.

    1. [NCRUTHER-L] William Morris-Rutherford NC or Bedford VA?
    2. Vicky J Chambers
    3. I am trying to sort out the many Morris relations in NC and VA hoping to find a clue as to which group my William belongs . This is what I know about William Morris. William Morris Married Christianna(Christian) Simmons on May 2, 1793 in Amherst County VA. The marriage bond says William Morris of Bedford VA. Christianna is the daughter of James Simmons and Mary Waters. The Simmons family moved to Rutherford NC where James Simmons died at High Shoals. The Simmons family intermarried with several well known Rutherford surnames such as McKinney, Patterson, and Lewis. William and Christianna moved to Georgia before the first child was born , 1793-1794. The children of this couple are, Rhoda born abt 1793-94 in GA Martha Christian born abt.1797 in GA Elizabeth Wright born abt 1797 in GA John E. born Oct . 9,1800 in SC Henry Joseph born 1804 in SC William G born between 1805-1815 in GA Family tradition has it that William Morris was from Rutherford NC as well. Any help or clues will be most appreciated! Vicky Genealogy without good sources is mythology.

First, the background: My greatgrandfather Patillo Golightly MAHAFFEE served in the Civil War (signed up as P.G. MAHAFFEE) but as it turned out he enlisted in S.C. and moved to Rutherford County, NC after the war. I found: http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/archives/arch/mars.htm a few years ago, when it was still in DOS format. 3. Larry, I have a Nancy WEBB born abt 1806, who married Robert HANEY in Rutherford Co in 1821. Do you have anything on a HANEY connection? Bride: Nancy Webb Groom: Robert Haney Bond Date: 28 Dec 1821 County: Rutherford Record #: 01 127 Bondsman: Johnathan Webb Witness: Alfred Webb, Justice of the Peace Bond #: 000133925 According to other researchers, Alfred WEBB was a minister/pastor. Alfred Webb, born about 01 Feb 1800 in the Old Tryon area of NC became a Baptist preacher of some note, both in NC and, later, in Georgia. His parents are probably Robert Webb and Emelia Clinton, with siblings as Clinton, Elisha, Robert, Edith, Temperence, Delia, Hetty, Jeremiah, Drucilla, Didima, James, and Sarah. The Webbs in Rutherford were leaders. Alfred lived near the Dawson/Forsythe county line in Georgia and pastored both the Mt. Vernon Church in Dawson County and the Mt. Tabor Church in Forsythe. He was moderator of the Hightower Baptist Association (with many Baptist churches in North Georgia) for 40 years. He went to Georgia while in his 30s. [from Fran Goode Akridge on the Rutherford Co maillist] He was married to Arabella Hill.
