Also, have you pulled either George W., Mary Elizabeth, Hester Ann, James, or Carrie's death certificate? I have George and Maggie's daughter Cora's but am interested in the rest. Mainly cause of death as I am sort of keeping track of how people in my family died. Also, are there dates for the birth and death of Maggie's parents as well as their parents names? I know Isaac is buried in Union Baptist Cemetery but there are no dates listed.

Arta D Powell was listed with her parents in the 1900 Federal Census for Rutherford County, NC, and again in 1910 in the Cleveland County Census, but I've not found her in the 1920 or 1930. Judging by the size & style of the tombstone & since it has only her nickname, I think she may have died between 1910 & 1920, perhaps by whatever disease took the lives of her brother William Thomas' wife & 3 of his children from July to October of 1912 > > I guess that Maggie went by Margaret on the 1870 Census, Peggy on the > 1880, and then Maggie for the rest. The license indicated that his mother was alive > then and I've seen nothing that show George W. having been married twice. I had puzzled over whether George W was married prior to his marriage to Maggie as the 1900 Federal Census for Rutherford County (as abstracted by the Broad River Genealogical Society) indicated that George F was born in August 1881 and was shown as 18 years old. However it also stated that Maggie had borne 6 children & all six were living. I too had not found any prior marriage records for George W. Have you checked to see if there is a bastardy bond in Rutherford County for Maggie & George? Have you checked George F's death certificate? I haven't had an opportunity to pull it yet. > Do you know where I could find obituaries from that far back? Maybe Old Tryon Genealogical Society. > Thanks for your help. Hi, I am a new subscriber and am interested in finding the marriage bonds for: 1, Solomon NETTLES and Margaret.. maiden name unknown.. Solomon and family were found in Haywood Co, in the 1810 Census. While the NETTLES are in Haywood Co. in 1810 Census, the JUSTICE family are in the Buncombe Co. 1810 Census. 2. Amos JUSTICE and Mrs. Margaret NETTLES: By May 1813, Solomon is deceased, and widow marries Amos JUSTICE by 1824. Nettles heirs appoint Amos as guardian in a 1824 document. 3. John D. JUSTICE to Sarah NETTLES.. [mar. 1820-1824] One of the Nettles girls [Mary] marries Wm. STICE in Rutherford Co. [1818], and Amos JUSTICE's parents and siblings are found there as well. Any help or direction in finding these marriage bonds is appreciated! In 1870 Isaac, Nancy & the children were living between the homes of her parents & one of her brothers in the #8 township, Camp Call, Cleveland County, NC. The children are listed as Thomas, Margaret, Benjamin, Chrisenberry & Artie. Artie is listed as a 3 year-old and could have been the 13 year-old "Dillsy" listed in 1880. "Dillsy" has been a puzzle as I believe Artie is buried in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, near Polkville in Cleveland County. I've covered every inch of that cemetery as many, many members of my family are buried there. Isaac has a tombstone, Nancy does not if she is there. In the area of the Powells is a stone marked simply "Artie", no dates, etc. I 've theorized this may be little Artey from the 1870 census. If you haven't seen it already, Bill Floyd has this cemetery on his website: http://www.rfci.net/wdfloyd/UnionClv.html > No idea where I would find a cause of death for Maggie since she died in > 1909. No idea where you could find her cause of death unless there's a newspaper article. The old ones sometimes mentioned that folks in the area were sick & kept an update on them. Could be it's mentioned if she has an obituary. For insrance, my Great-Grandmother over in Cleveland County had little blurbs about her for several weeks, then when she died it said she had been paralized from a stroke for several weeks. Could be some of your folks wrote letters mentioning her death. > Maggie and George are my great-great grandparents. Guess that makes us doubly related. Thanks for the information. I have a copy of the marriage license of Maggie and George which is where I found out that her parents were Isac and Nancy. I thought that Isac might be the same one who is listed on your website as having served in the Civil War but I wasn't sure. The LDS website lists Isac and Nancy on the 1880 Census as living in Rutherford County with sons Ben, Christenberry, and John as well as daughters Peggy and Dillsey. Peggy is listed as being born in 1858 so its possible that she is Maggie. No idea where I would find a cause of death for Maggie since she died in 1909. Hello, I bought mine directly from Irene's mother back in 1996, (she had them stacked up in her dining room), but you might try writing the publisher, maybe they can help you track down a copy: Omega Press 1116 Spring Garden Street Philadelphia PA 19123-3316 Also, go to whitepages.com & key in Irene Delpino in North Carolina, her home address & phone number pop up. (Her hometown is very small & may use post office boxes instead of street addresses.) Enjoy the trek, Judy

Hi, You may be able to find the parents' names on the marriage licenses of the couples, if married after 1868 in NC. Have you checked the census listings for the suspected parents to see the names of the children? If you know a sibling who died after 1913, check his/her death certificate.
