    3. Most of the McMurry's were spelled as such in Cleveland Co. J.J. McMurry was on the 1880 census in Sandy Run, Township No. 7. ED 71, p2/569B: J.J. McMurry, 31, farmer, b NC Margaret, 34, housekeeper, b NC A.S., 10, son A.W., 7, son H.E., 5, daughter. You might check the 1880 Manufacturers' census to see if McMurry store is listed or look for ads in microfilmed editions of The New Era published in Shelby. There are issues from 1887-1889 on microfilm. 3. Hi Lynn... I responded to Greg directly and forgot to CC the group. Here is some additional information for those interested: Albert Green, Pvt. (Coroner) (b. c1836 s/o Elias Green & Rebecca Hamrick) m. Mary Jane Washburn (August 10, 1835-February 9, 1875 d/o Abraham Washburn & Rebecca Durham). Cannot find C. R. Doggett so assume he was born post 1850. Rev. George Milton Webb (c1831-c1917 s/o James M. Webb & Catherine White) m. Priscilla Jane Blanton (c1833-June 12, 1916 d/o George Blanton & Priscilla Harrill). Jesse Jenkins McMurray (May 01, 1849-January 05, 1934 s/o John Wilson McMurray & Elizabeth Jenkins) m. Margaret Hamrick (c1846-c1885 d/o Elijah M. Hamrick, Jr. & Hannah Hamrick) m. 2nd Hessentine Gardner (c1856-c1927) Who were her parents? Jesse had land in Township 6 and Township 7; burried Cleveland Co. NC (Sunset Cemetery - Shamrock Section). Lynn.... I believe Julia (who you show with Albert Green in the 1880) is really his 2nd wife. His 1st wife (Mary Jane Washburn) died in 1875. Julia (or Zulia as shown in some documents) was the 1st wife of Capt. William S. Corbett who died in 1869, the same aprox year as the William Corbett Jr. you list in this 1880 census as age 11. Also on that census you show "C.C. Durham, 67, boarder, farmer." This was Julia/Zulia's father, Charles Crawford Durham, Pvt. (1814-1887). Jeff -----Original Message----- From: Lynn E. 3. Hi, all I realize this isn't the Cleveland Co. list, but I have an 1891 marriage certificate for Samuel Lovelace and Julia Philbeck filed in Cleveland Co. Both families will trace back to Rutherford Co., which is why I'm asking the question here. Sam and Julia were married by G. M. Webb, Baptist Minister, whom I assume to be George M. Webb. They were married at "McMurry's Stoare" in Shelby. The witnesses were J. J. McMurry, whom I assume to be the store owner, C. R. Doggett, whom I assume, based on 1880 census records to be Charles R. Doggett, and Albert Green, who I have no idea about. Anybody know anything about McMurry's Store or JJ McMurry? I can't find any McMurray's in the 1880 or 1900 Cleveland Co. census records which might match this J. J. Just trying to figure out all the principals and witnesses in this marriage, and any help would be appreciated :-) Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg Lovelace --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]

    3. I am seeking any additional information that you can provide about the parents/siblings of Pleasant Webb. Thanks a million. ============================================================= Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB was born about ca 1760-1765. His son, Elias, said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland (not substantiated). He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina . In 1803 (reported to be 45 years old) he was at the Licks in Scioto County, Ohio. Pleasant was in GreenupCounty, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830. He did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown had the following children: James WEBB (1786), Elias WEBB (1788), Thomas Hanley WEBB (1795), Aden WEBB (1797), Temperance WEBB (1799), William WEBB (1801), Margaret WEBB (1806), Sarah (Sally) WEBB (1809), and Baker WEBB (1811). 3. Bill, you are the greatest! The amount of work you have done with deeds, cemeteries, etc., is amazing, and everyone researching in the areas you have covered has or will benefit. Thank you! I have quite a few pages from those deed books to request, but will do so in a private email. When I was in the courthouse, I just abstracted the deeds I wanted, as there was no copy machine available and I didn't have a digital camera (assuming such existed at that time!) R. Hamrick finally figured it all out. We looked at the page of the book on HeritageQuest, and it has the generation numbers included. Here's the source citation: Lewis, Wm. Terrell: Genealogy of the Lewis family in America from the middle of the seventeenth century down to the present time; Louisville, Ky.: Courier-Journal Job Print. Co., 1893, c 1892, 459 pgs. The Louisa Jane mentioned above is actually Nancy's sister, not daughter. "E11. Jesse Taliaferro, son of Charles Lewis, Sr., was born in Rutherford county, North Carolina, in 1808. He is a farmer and member of the Baptist church at Mountain Creek Meeting-house. He is about five feet seven inches in height, with blue eyes and auburn hair. His post-office is Green Hill, Rutherford county, N. C. In 1843 he married Susan, daughter of Stephen Cowart, of Rutherford county, who died in May, 1886. She had seven children, viz: F1. Nancy Elizabeth, born in 1844. In 1860 she married William Jay, son of James Jay, of Rutherford county, North Carolina. She died in Newton county, Missouri, and left the following named children: G1. Carl Pulfio Cummins, born in 1863 G2. Grisef Dreadnaught Xerxes, born in 1865, and died in 1866 [Greg's note: With a name like that, no wonder the child died in infancy!!!] F2. Mary E., daughter of Jesse T. Lewis, born in 1846; married Jesse Sorrels. F3. Louisa Jane, born in 1848; married Munroe Lovelace F4. William Thomas, born in 1850; died single F5. Richard Taliaferro, born in 1851. F6. James Madison, born in 1853. F7. Laura Elizabeth, born in 1855." And here Mr. Lewis made a mistake. Laura Elizabeth Lewis married Monroe Miller Lovelace in 1881. The marriage record is listed on Bill Floyd's website at http://rfci.net/wdfloyd/rclicdex.html Lovelace, M. M. Lewis, Laura 1881 I've asked Bill for a copy. And my database does show Laura E. Lewis, daughter of Jessie T. Lovelace, married to Monroe Miller Lovelace based on data from Cousin Doug Lovelace and Dr. Marc Hoyle Lovelace. Monroe Miller Lovelace was the son of Nathan Crawford and Mary Elizabeth Boggs Lovelace. Nathan Crawford was the son of Thomas and Judith McSwain Lovelace. Thomas was the son of Asa and Susannah Hardin Lovelace. Asa is thought to be the son of Barton and Lucy Watson Lovelace of Montgomery Co., MD. Barton is thought to be the son of Benjamin and Sarah Lovelace of Montgomery Co., MD. Benjamin is thought to be the son of John Lovelace.
