    1. Reuben BROWN born 1830 North Carolina
    2. The Carver's Daughter
    3. I need information on a Reuben BROWN. On the 1850 census for Cherokee County NC he is age 20 and living in the household of Thomas and Margaret BROWN. He could not have been the son of Margaret because she was born 1823. However we have always thought Thomas had a family before he married Margaret. I totally lose Reuben after that single census. He may also have had a sister named Louisa as there is a Louisa BROWN listed first on the birth pages of the family Bible. She also was much too old to have been a child of Margaret. She was older than Reuben and quite possibly married by the 1850 census. I am hoping that find Reuben and or Louisa might help me find information about the parents and history of Thomas. I do know that Thomas was born in Rutherford County nc and he married Margaret in Burke County nc Be careful who you choose to hate, it may be someone you love

    1. Alfred Braddy and Elizabeth Lovelace
    2. Greg Lovelace
    3. Hi, all I am searching for information on Alfred Braddy who, in 1855, married Elizabeth Lovelace in Rutherford Co. They were married by Amos Harrill, Justice of the Peace. Their marriage bond was wintessed by R. L. Gilkey and posted by Jesse Rogers. They are listed in the 1860 Rutherford Co. census, he being 25 years old and she being 23. I have found an A. A. Bradly in the 1850 census, age 15, living with parents Edward and Nancy Bradly in Broad River Twp., Rutherford Co. I have not done an entire search line by line of the 1850 census to try to find Alfred due to lack of time. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me who he might be. Thanks in advance :-) Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]

    3. Thanks for the many emails asking about our Book Committee meeting on the 22nd. There was a capacity crowd at the April 22nd meeting of the Moore Co. Heritage Book Committee. Several newcomers, and a whole lot of regular members! The main topic of discussion was family stories and pictures. Like all other NC County heritage books, the main thrust of the book; Moore County - NC Heritage - 2005 is family history genealogy and heritage. More than a dozen incentive awards were passed out to those who took the challenge and brought a story and picture! Based on attendance, enthusiasm and e-mail response, the new book will be a fabulous one! The Committee members (and guests) were given a one month extension to write and bring their family stories and pictures. The next meeting will be on May 20th, 6:30 PM at the Sagebrush Steakhouse (1500 US Hiway 1) in Southern Pines. Persons must be present to win the incentive award. Deadline for the general public will be late 2004. In addition to numerous family stories, there were several other topical articles submitted; Linden Garden Club, Longleaf Garden Club, Moore Co. Bee-keepers, Bethesda Presbyterian Church "High Falls" to name just a few. Best bet is to come and see what all the excitement is about; May 20, 6:30 PM at the Sagebrush Steakhouse in Southern Pines. If you are not within driving range, you may mail your material to: Moore Co. Heritage Book, PO Box 3151, Pinehurst, NC 28374. 2. Connie Heath
    3. Just wanted to let other list members know what that we have learned about Thursday's (4-22) Moore Co. Heritage Book Committee meeting! I am especially anxious to get my free "incentive award" for bringing my story and picture to the meeting! The Moore County is just like the other prestigious NC County heritage books, the main emphasis is family heritage and genealogy! Anson, Bladen, (soon) Cleveland, Granville, Rockingham, (soon) Scotland, Stanly and Warren Counties have recently completed beautiful collector's editions (among more than 30 counties compiled since 1990). Proceeds from those books have benefited local historical and genealogical preservation. Each modern Moore County household is invited to submit 500 words and a free picture. Those with ancestors within Moore County by or before 1840 are invited to submit another 500 words and free photo. The meeting is tomorrow, 4-22 at 6:30 PM, at Stagecoach Steakhouse in Southern Pines. Bring your own story and picture for a valuable incentive award. If unable to attend, you may mail the material to Moore Co. Book, PO Box 3151, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Even though Cleveland Co., NC - 2 has gone to press, you will find some informative instructions at the website: http://home.earthlink.net/~srapa/index.htm For more specific info. about the Moore County project, you may email; MooreCoBook@Yahoo.com. Moore County has been in dire need of a Heritage volume! Now the time has come! Our next meeting is Thursday, April 22, 6:30 PM at Sagebrush Steakhouse in Southern Pines. Hope you are within driving distance! There is an incentive award to those bringing family stories, clubs, church articles and photos to this important meeting. 2. HOPEWELL CEMETERY (OLD) This cemetery is located in the Hopewell-Hollis area of Rutherford county. It is located about 1.4 miles east of the present Hopewell Methodist Church, north of Ellenboro. It is situated in an island of pine trees in and open field about 500 feet off the north side of the Hopewell Road (County road # 1760). The cemetery covers about 2 acres and contains several hundred old graves, but unfortunately only about four of them have inscribed markers, as shown herewith. Byers, Mary Roda, 7 June 1862 9 Dec 1863 d/o J.C. & D.E. Byers Does anyone have any relatives that may be buried in this cemetery? My 3xgreatgrandparents were moved from this cemetery to Beulah Methodist cemetery in Cleveland County in the 80's I believe. Looking to find out if any other Wolfe's besides Jacob Wolfe and Nancy McEntire Thompson his wife were buried there. I had that the Nancy C (Wolfe?) Bowen above was their daughter but found out they weren't, that John Davis above was probably her father and not sure of who her mother was. Is there a church affiliated with this cemetery that may have some records of who may have been buried there in Rutherford County? 1. Re: [NCRUTHER-L] Twitty's

    3. I am descended from Captain William TWITTY (? - 1775) and Susannah BELLARS (? - ?), through their daughter Susannah TWITTY (1763 - 1825) and John MILLER (1758 - 1807). Has anyone determined William TWITTY's birth date/place or their residence prior to moving to NC in the mid 1760s? I've seen an undocumented Ancestral File that says he was born circa 1719, but have found no documentation to support that. I've also found no further information on Susannah BELLARS, other than that she married William GRAHAM after TWITTY's death in KY on the Daniel BOONE expedition. I've seen a couple of books that indicate some of his children were born in Chester Co., PA, but have not found any William TWITTY records there in that time period. I also found a court record in Mecklenburg Co., VA, saying a William TWITTY left a deed to settle a debt and moved to SC in 1758, and another record in 1767 showed a bill collector being hired to collect a debt from William TWITTY in SC, but it may not be the same William TWITTY. (The "Twitty Family in America" book says they were different men.) So any additional TWITTY / BELLARS information would be appreciated. 2. I bought a book on E-bay a couple of weeks ago. It was Through Tinted Lenses. It was about the Jolley Family in Rutherford County in late 1800's and early 1900's. It was a very good book! They mention different people who lived in the area at that time. The only relative I have that was mentioned was Dr. Thomas C. McBrayer my 1st cousin 2 times removed. But, it was such a good book that it is a shame it couldn't be reprinted and sold in area stores as a souvenir. Barb Channell
