    2. Hi, is any one else researching the McBrayer families? My Great-grandfather was N.B. McBrayer. I have information on my Granduncles and Grandaunts except for James Calvin McBrayer. 2. Margaret Smith
    3. Barb, In your Sparks query you mentioned that you are also researching Waldrops. Is this the same Waldrop family in which two men married McClurkin sisters? Do you have any information linking Lindsey/ay, McClurkin (McLurkin, etc.) and Waldrop families? My Micajah Lindsey married Elizabeth McClurkin, and two of her sisters married Waldrops in Rutherford Co. They all eventually moved to Alabama (though my line went on to Mississippi from there). 1. Foster, Lankford (Langford), Cloud, Sparks, Garrett, Farris among others
    2. Robert Foster
    3. I am trying to make a connection to these families in Rutherford Co. I suspect that they are related to my Fosters who were in Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas and the Indian Territory. My ancestor Joseph Foster lived in close proximity to a Green Langford in Denton Co., Texas and later in Carroll Co., Arkansas. This Green Langford's grandfather was George Langford, a shoemaker from NC who lived for a while in Yell Co., Arkansas. I do not know the name of Green's father as he died before 1860. Some of Joseph's children married Clouds and Sparks in McIntosh Co., Oklahoma. Does anyone know anything about the origins of the early Ruthford Co. Fosters? I've seen online data that indicates they might originate in Albemarle Co., VA. Are they related to the nearby Spartanburg and Greenville Co., SC Fosters? I am particularly intested in the Daniel and James M. Foster on the 1820 census. Is this Daniel the one who shows up in McMinn Co., Tennessee? Where did James M. Foster go? I am also interested in the Matthew Garrett on the War of 1812 roster--he was listed next to Daniel Foster. How does he relate to the Mary Garrett on the 1790 census? _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/

    2. Is anyone researching Calvin Sparks family. He was married to Susanna Bridges the second time. Calvin is my 2nd great-grandfather. I am also interested in a certain medical history for female descendants of Susanna Bridges. Please e-mail if you have information. Thank you, Barb Dyer Channell Researching -- Dyer's, Splawn's, Childers, Gibbs, McBrayer's, Allen's, Griffin's, Sparks, Bridges, Harrill's, Waldrop's, Channell's, Folsom's, Whisler's, Breed's and a whole lot more!

    2. Just for additional information: The Zadock Harris House still stands and is owned by a direct descendant of Zadock Harris (who actually died in 1846). I visited the house last summer and the cemetery across the road which did have a church near the cemetery at one time. The cemetery is called the Wesley Chapel Memorial Cemetery. I do not know any of the names in the cemetery except the Harris family as that is my research area. Zadock was the brother of my husband's great, great, great grandfather who also ran the post office in Chimney Rock out of his home and his son's ran that post office after his death as well. 3. Bill Floyd makes reference to it here: GOODE FAMILY CEMETERY: This cemetery is located in the Goodes Creek Church community, about 3 miles west of Cliffside and on a hilltop just west of Goode's Creek on the old Island Ford Road. This is the old homeplace of John Goode. Only evidence of two graves remain (1971). -----Original Message----- From: ab4ra@bellsouth.net [mailto:ab4ra@bellsouth.net] Sent: Monday, June 28, 2004 5:21 PM To: NCRUTHER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NCRUTHER-L] Island Ford Rd. 1. Where is Daniel Town?
    2. Hi to all, My grandparents lived in a very little community called Daniel Town in Either Rutherford or Cleveland County back in the 60's. I just wondered if anyone knows where this was. My granny Minnie Ethel Grigg Fortune died in 1967 and my grandfather Raleigh Washington Fortune who died in 1974 lived there. I know at the end of I think a dirt road there was a pond. My parents, Margie Lee Fortune( still living) and Robert Oates, died in 1987, wouldn't let us swim in it as it had a lot of snakes and I am terrified of them, especially when the water is murky and you can't see anything below a few inches. Just wondered if anyone knows where this place was or is? Thanks, Melanie Oates Malone

    3. Please consider the possibility that these places---Island Ford and Sulphur Springs---could be in current Cleveland Co. in the part that was Rutherford prior to 1841. When I search for these terms on the GNIS website, I find them both associated with cleveland Co. There is a Sulphur Springs church and cemetery that is shown on the map. This is near Patterson Springs, Stices Shoals, and the Broad River, near SC line. I will keep looking for more info and let you know if I find anything else. > > From: Greg Lovelace <gregl@starfishnet.com> > Date: 2004/06/28 Mon PM 02:24:49 EDT > To: NCRUTHER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [NCRUTHER-L] Island Ford PO > > Hi, all > > Thanks to everyone who has come back with possible locations for Island > Ford, the residence of Elizabeth Lovelace Braddy at the time of her pension > application for her husband's service in the Confederacy. 1. Island Ford
    2. From: Peoples Bicentennial History Rutherford County: The little village of Harris in southern part of Rutherford County received its name from the Zadock Harris Family who settled there in 1826...... A post office had been establish at Island Ford, a few miles west of Harris's home in 1827. It had been discontinued in 1840, but Harris managed to get it re-established and moved to the stage coach stop in 1841. He was named postmaster at the time. Three of his sons served as Island Ford postmaster after the father's death in 1848. The office was finally discontinued in 1907... There is an Island Ford Rd. in the county today. 3. Hi, all Thanks to everyone who has come back with possible locations for Island Ford, the residence of Elizabeth Lovelace Braddy at the time of her pension application for her husband's service in the Confederacy. As I stated in my original post, the date of the application was 27 Jun 1903. The application was filed in Rutherford Co., so Elizabeth would have been a resident of Rutherford Co. The application states that both she and her son-in-law J. W. Wyatt, with whom she was listed in the census in 1900, were both residents of Island Ford PO, Sulphur Springs Township. So this cannot be the Island Ford in Catawba County, which most responses have mentioned. Just wanted to set the record straight and say that I am still wondering where this Island Ford PO was..... Thanks again for your time and your responses :-) Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]

    3. Request information about location of Island Ford or Island Ford community. Have been informed that it was an old community in the late 1700's located on the NC/SC state lines in the vicinity of Rutherford County, NC. There was supposedly a Baptist Church with cemetery at Island Ford. The old church since destroyed though cemetery said to be intact, likely overgrown and old. Specifically I am seeking location of graves for George Turner and his wife Ann or Nancy Turner. George was buried mid March 1804. I do not know date nor burial date of his wife Ann. Appreciation for this informtion cannot be measured! Gratefully Ila
