On Thanksgiving Day, 26 Nov 1914, he was married to Zeola Kimball, daughter of William Luther Kimball and Mary Ida Hileman. They had known each other all of their lives but started paying attention to each other when Bruner asked if he could take her to Sam Deal's wake. She went. Then he took her to a few school closing and some pound parties where the men took a pound of candy and the women took a cake. Zeola's father was a magistrate so he conducted the ceremony. Zeola's brother, Charlie, and Bruner's sister, Mary who'd been married about a year earlier stood up with them. For about a year following their wedding, they lived with Bruner's parents, then they got a farm of their own. Bruner has always farmed even when he was caretaker at Greenlawn Cemetery for 18 years and then at the China Grove Cotton Mill for a while until he retired. Bruner and Zeola had 7 children as follows; Elbert Oney Deal born 9 Dec 1915, married Lucille Kincaid, Bittie Oscar Deal born 7 Mar 1919 married Virginia Wilheim, John William Deal born 27 Jan 1922, married Evelyn Bunton, Ralph Lee Deal born 27 May 1926 married Jane Barringer, Basil Bernard Deal born 30 Mar 1924, married Maxine Walter, died 4 July, 1989, buried at Westlawn Cemetery, China Grove, Lala Eleanor Deal born Jan 1929, married Glen Lowder and Eva Mae Deal born 5 June 1933, married John H. Yost. All five of their sons served their country during World War II. They did not know that Bitle had been a German prisoner of war until he was released. He had been captured by the Germans the day after he crossed the Rhine River. That was close to the end of the war and 18 days later, he was free again. Bruner and Zeola Deal have been married six years longer than the Bible's promise of three score years and ten for life itself. ** Ginny My only connection with the Diehl/Deal family is through marriages to our Keefer family in PA much earlier. Hi Ginny, Thanks for the info. :) Since I posted my first query I just found these two deeds in Rowan County. I don't know who is in Cabarrus or Mecklenburg but Rowan Co., NC has 1802 Jacob Deal, Peter Albright, JACOB HEILMAN (HILEMAN) and Elizabeth Deal-all of Rowan Co. -193 acres next to Jacob Corell, John Stirewalt, Phillip Henry Berger, Phillip Yost, and Peter Stirewalt... Adam Stirewalt... grant to Joseph Deal on Nov. 4 1784 on Buffelow Creek. I just found this one. The other one is for Peter Diel 4 Feb 1817 Rowan Co. names his father as Joseph Diel who was deceased and had been granted the land.. mentions John Stirewalt. Do you know anything on this bunch ? Wonder if they are kin to the ones you mention. Marianne Dillow "Virginia L.
