She was a Confederate spy and an accomplice of John Wilkes Booth, but wasn't directly involved in Lincoln's assasination. I had no idea that her husband, Rowan Slater, lived here in Rowan County. I just did a little research and found that in the 1850 census, Rowan was 15 years old and was living with his sister Mary Elizabeth Slater Overman and her husband William Overman. Rowan was employed as a clerk at that time. He was a sub-agent for the Confederate Government in Wayne County in 1863. He joined Co. A, 20th NC on 7/23/1864 and was captured 4/6/1865 in Farmville, VA. Released 4/24/1865. His Confederate service records show he was 5'2", florid complexion, dark hair, grey eyes. In the 1880 census he was living in Albemarle Co., VA and working as a dance master. He was single and 45 years old. That's all I can find in this quick search. If I find more, I'll let you know.
