My great grandfather was Benjamin Smith who married Sarah Jane Chaplin in 1847 in Hendricks County Indiana. Sarah Jane was the daughter of John Henry Chaplin and Mary Pope. I would like to obtain a copy of the record you mention of John Henry serving in the Rowan Co. NC militia of 1812 and a copy of the marriage bond or license. I wonder if you could refer me to a source of the military record and if you know their marriage record. I suppose you have read the Silas Peace book on the Popes the ancestors of Mary Pope.
