    1. [NCROWAN] William M. WILSON (b.@1821-d.1864).

    3. I have a William M. WILSON (b.@1821-d.1864). He married Caroline EARNHART in 1857 in Rowan County. Their child was Clara Bell WILSON (1858-1943), my ggrandmother, who married John Fletcher PACE (1844-1901Rowan). The name Clara Bell may have come from the Wilson family. William M. WILSON was living in the Shaver Hotel (Mansion House) in Salisbury in the 1850 census. He was 29 years old and a silversmith. He may have had a previous marriage because the age difference between himself and Caroline EARNHART is 17 years. The fact that he was living in a hotel implies there was no immediate family in Salisbury. In 1850 he was a 27-year-old silversmith living in the Shaver Hotel in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC, suggesting to me that he had no relatives nearby. At a rooming house in 1850 was a teenaged Henry Wilson, also a silversmith. I know there was a PA silversmith named William R. Wilson who came to Salisbury, but I don't think he is the same as my William M. Wilson. William M. WILSON died before May 1864, as that is when his estate was settled in Salisbury. There is a W. MORGAN WILSON shown in Co. C, 8th NC Regiment from Rowan; he was said to have died in Salisbury while home on furlough, possibly of wounds/disease--no date given (Jethro Rumple book Roll of Honor). I do not know if this is the same person as my William M. WILSON as Rumples' ages don't match the 1850 census exactly. I would love to know his parents' names and would share later information on my family.
