Some of the links on this page only work from library computers. Still, there is a lot that works for the general public, from any computer (no user name or password needed). http://www.rowancountync.gov/GOVERNMENT/Departments/PublicLibrary/HistoryRoom/tabid/454/Default.aspx Be sure to check out Theo. Buerbaum's Salisbury, images of historical postcards (http://www.rowancountync.gov/GOVERNMENT/Departments/PublicLibrary/Histor yRoom/TheoBuerbaumsSalisbury/tabid/451/Default.aspx). I can use NCLive, including HeritageQuest. If you are not familiar with HeritageQuest it is an online resource including census records, Revolutionary War records, Freedman's Bank records, US Serial Set, Persi, & tons & tons of Scanned books relating to history, including family & towns. Some I have had great luck in, others none. I obtain access to HeritageQuest online threw Rowan Public Library. They gave me the code & pin to get in. Many libraries across the states have this. If your library doesn't keep looking for one that does. Don't be afraid to drive a distance to a library who does have it because you don't really need to be close to use it. You only have to keep your card current. I promise it's worth it. I got my card through Rowan back when I lived in Iredell County (I'm now in Rowan). I am sort of stuck at home these days but do plan on going back (hopefully) soon. When I do I will let the list know.
