    3. Finally an answer on JOHN JULIAN (D.1886). It turns out he is the brother of my WILLIAM JULIAN and son of DAVID JULIAN and wife ELIZABETH MERRILL (granddaughter of Capt. Benj. Merrill, hanged as a Regulator in 1771).. Betty Pace --------- Forwarded message ---------- Dear Betty, This is in reply to your note of 9/17 regarding the John Julian who died 4/12/1886. This one I know about. He must have a thousand descendants -- all living in the Salisbury area. John was the 3rd child of our David Julian and Elizabeth Merrill and brother to our William. Born in 1800, he married Abigail SHINN. They could not afford a TV so they had 11 or more children including Betsy, William, Mary E., Matilda, Clementine, Caroline, Benjamin, James T., George Washington, and Isaac Ross Julian. Because so many of these names are in other Julian lines, including ours, and are about the same dates, there has been confusion through the years as to what line they were from. I won't even try and list the married names of the girls or their descendants. <snip> From: "Betty A. Genealogical Society Journal (Vol. 16, #3, 2002) contains the obituary from the Carolina Watchman on April 15, 1886 of a JOHN JULIAN (1800-1886). I am not sure who he is but he must be a part of my Julian family somehow. "Death of JOHN JULIAN - Another old and valued citizen of this county passed through the iron gate Monday morning last. Mr Julian was born in April 1800; and was therefore eighty-six years old. He was well known in this county and also in Iredell, where he lived many years. He resided in this vicinity the last forty years of his life. He was a farmer and retained considerable strength up to the time of his last illness; and having been accustomed to active out-door labors all his life, was frequently seen in town, mixing with people, and taking active interest in the subjects engaging popular concern. Respected by all who knew him, reverenced by his children and grandchildren, the memory of John Julian will linger for many years in honor of him whose life was one continued scene of duties well-performed."
