Hi, I don't know if you got an answer to your query or not. There is a book written by a ___Powell. It is entitled something like "Gazetteer of North Carolina," and your local library might have it, depending on where you life. I'm sorry I can't recall the author's first name. Maybe someone on the list can supply that and perhaps a more accurate title. The book is very useful.
