Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0VB.2ACI/6959 Message Board Post: As I looked into my House and Crowell research I also took a research into the Heilig and Shad/Shadd families as well. All of which go between Cherokee and African American with German as well. My research goes to Joel House, my greatgrandfather who lived in Cabarrus County, and according to the 1850 and 1869 census of that county was a free man, a laborer, classified as mulatto. In the 1870 census of Rowan County is listed my greatgrandmother Keziah House, age 40, Black, four sons: Sire, Monroe, Martin, and Jackson. Jackson known as John was my grandfather born about 1860. Now Sire House, the oldest, married Eliza Shad in 1873; children I do not know; however in the listing for Eliza Shad there was a Mitchell and Roseanne Shad, and on that list was Elizabeth House, along with some Heilig children, Sidney, Beulah, Effie, James, Bessie. Also, my Aunt Maggie House, married a John Heilig, whose family was born, reared, many of which still live in a Salisbury community known as ! Heiligtown. Need to find more Heiligs. Thank you. Joseph
