    2. The 1890 census indexes for Union Veterans (not Confederates, alas) have mostly been published. Perhaps they are on Ancestory.com--I have not looked, as only one of my ancestors was a Union veteran. Are you near a large genealogical library--or a family history center (LDS)? If so, telephone and ask whether they have any published 1890 census indexes for Union Veterans. Each state has a different index. If these indexes are not near your home, perhaps you can request a look-up for the particular state in which you are interested. Maybe somebody will reward you. E.W.Wallace
